I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2008 with a Bachelors in Fine Art Photography. My work up has consisted of personal art documentary projects, about beauty, county fair pageants and princesses, in an effort to explore the way beauty is marketed, sold and promoted to little girls. es you shouldn’t tell pregnant women, but forever solidified my belief in birth work. My family and I relocated to Richmond in August of 2011, and we discovered we were pregnant with our second child. I was determined to overcome my the fears and doubts from my first birth, and have the birth experience I was really hoping for the first time around, so I found the birth community in Richmond in an effort to find support and discovered the openness, amazing options, and strong community available to women in Richmond. I was lucky enough for my second birth to be a healing (and fast) experience. I desperately wish that we had hired a photographer because in a few short weeks my memories of the day have faded (only a couple of photographers would forget the pictures!). Poised for a career change it made sense to combine my technical skills and passion for photography with my commitment to birth work. I quickly trained as a birth doula, and recently added HCHD training which stands for Hypnobabies® Childbirth Hypnosis Doula. Assisting in the moment when a couple welcomes a new family member might be the best job ever!
