Cranes for a Cure-American Cancer Society Relay for Life

Cranes for a Cure-American Cancer Society Relay for Life Track the awesome accomplishments of Team Cranes for a Cure as they promote awareness and raise funds for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life!!

Cranes for a Cure is a team of friends/family that participates in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Deanna started the team after her younger brother, Robert, was diagnosed with stage 4 Lung cancer in June of 2010. Unfortunatly, Robert lost his battle with cancer on May 18,2011. He was 27 years old. Cancer is a horrible illness that not only attacks the person with the diagnosis but h

as long term affects on everyone and anyone. Deanna's family and Rob's close friend's will ever be the same after seeing the cancer take him away day by day. The Japanese Legend that is associated with the crane and Robert's love and fascination of the Japanese culture inspired the team name. The Legend of the Crane:
In Japan, the crane is a symbol of long life. It is believed that
to fold 1000 cranes, referred to as sembazuru in Japanese, can
cure an illness or help someone to live a longer life. Japanese
people often make 1000 cranes and deliver them to people
who are in the hospital with illnesses. In Japan it is also
common for people to bring 1000 cranes to shrines to help
fulfill their wish for happiness, success and peace. It has been
said that the more people involved in the making of the
cranes, the better your luck will be in the end.
