IM70.3 Race Recap: Solid swim, held way back on the bike was feeling good about running and 55.5 miles into the bike leg, it all went sideways — literally.
Another athlete made an illegal pass, went down right in front of me, and I had nowhere to go. I hit the pavement hard.
In that moment, I was pretty sure I’d broken my shoulder. The easy (maybe wise? Ha!) choice would’ve been to call it a day.
But I didn’t train for months to stop at mile 55. I got back on the bike, finished the ride, and ran a 1:55 half marathon — the fastest in my age group by more than 10 minutes.
🥇 Won my 55-59 AG
🌎 Qualified for Worlds
Fueling and recovering from that kind of setback doesn’t happen by chance — it happens because I practice what I teach. As a sports dietitian and endurance athlete, I help athletes perform their best — physically and mentally — even when the race doesn’t go according to plan.
If you’re training for your next big goal — whether that’s your first triathlon or a Kona qualifier — I can help you fuel to finish strong.
