Genesis is collecting donations to distribute to our local food pantries. Approximately 2 million Illinois residents who receive SNAP benefits are at risk of losing them due to the ongoing government shutdown. If funding is not restored, families who depend on SNAP for food assistance may face severe hardship.

We will be taking the donations to the food pantries at the end of each week, and will continue to collect and donate food each week until the shutdown is resolved. Please consider donating food to your local pantries!

It’s AAC Awareness Month! 🌟💬 shared from ABA Visualized ❤️
And what better way to begin than by listening to the voices of AAC users themselves!

At the Stanford Neurodiversity Summit, we had the privilege of listening to AAC users share their experiences. Every single one shared a similar story: before they had access to AAC, they were always listening and understanding everything around them.

💭 “I listened to, heard, and understood all of their conversations. I was always listening.”

All month long, we’ll be sharing approachable strategies and ready-to-use resources to help you bring AAC into your classroom, home, or sessions with confidence. Let’s celebrate all the ways people communicate—because nonspeaking does not mean nonthinking. 💕

📖 Plus, to help spread advocacy, our book AAC Visualized is 20% off all month at abavisualized.com

Inspired by the words of Matteo Musso, Grant Blasko, Vikram Jaswal, Lucien Gonzales, and Zachary Duncan.

Repetitive behaviors and restricted interests are a big component of autism and that appears to be more obvious in boys than girls. Girls may have restrictive interests, but their interests appear to be more socially and culturally acceptable, such as a favorite band or book, while a boy on the spectrum may spend hours looking at rocks.

A female with autism might spend her free time studying makeup tutorials on the internet in order to fit in with female peers. Essentially, girls may realize they are different, so they strive to fit in as best as they can, while boys often do not realize they have any social deficits.

Communication isn't just one of our core values; it's a part of life. Imagine not having the tools to communicate your wants, needs, feelings or desires. This missing piece is likely to cause many challenging behaviors that act as obstacles to learning. We explore different methods of communication to help each child overcome this barrier. We focus on skill building and establishing daily living routines. We also help with potty training at all levels.

Just like flowers bloom at different paces, we believe that each child has the potential to bloom in their own special way. We take an individualized approach to each child's needs and implement behavior analytic principles to decrease any challenging behaviors that may be hindering growth.

Our clinical team has a wide range of experience in the field of ABA, working with people of various disabilities from ages 1-75. Guided by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) ethics requirements, our clinical team carefully develops behavior support strategies that parents are shown how to implement in their daily lives with their child.

Our hope at Genesis ABA is to be able to provide a sense of belonging to all individuals who would most benefit from our passion of helping others. We understand that open lines of communication, compassion for each individual situation, and consistency are all important elements in achieving meaningful and positive behavior change. Our goal is to help every individual to reach their fullest potential...at their own pace.
