PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Teach kids that boundaries are ok. "Back in the day," it was common that kids had to hug and/or kiss all the relatives.

Now we know better, so let's DO better. Teach BOYS AND GIRLS that boundaries around this issue are ok.

And speak out (loudly if you must) if there's an adult insisting that a child hug, kiss or be tickled.

Some kids eagerly hug everyone at holiday gatherings. Others feel uncomfortable with physical affection, especially from relatives or family friends they seldom see. Both responses are valid. These moments offer a chance to teach children an important lesson about body autonomy: you don't owe anyone physical affection.
