October 12 - 18th is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Awareness Week. This disorder faces many misconceptions in popular culture. More than just quirky tendencies, people with OCD experience heavy distress from thoughts that are completely outside of their control. The ritual activities most people think of when imagining OCD are not just habits, but behavior that attempts to destroy these thoughts. The repeated behaviors can highly affect the time and energy that a person living with OCD has available for things they actually want to do.
