Charlie Kirk’s life has been the rightful topic of much discussion the past few days, and to omit recognition of his legacy would be remiss. It is my deepest desire to present 4:8 Physio as an offering pleasing to the Lord; this always has been and always will be the ultimate mission for this small endeavor God has given me, and as such my convictions require that I speak out boldly in faith at all times.
Charlie’s example of unapologetic truth-seeking and subsequently strong and courageous actions to reflect the one and only Truth are certainly in line with the values I strive to operate from at 4:8. And yet, as moving and inspiring as Charlie’s life’s work was, to merely mention him here without a deep consideration for any possible long term action in our own lives would be a disservice to his name, and to the Name above all names that Charlie so boldly spoke of.
Therefore, I have taken a relatively considerable amount of time before responding to Charlie’s assassination publicly as 4:8 Physio. My fleshly reaction was to either remain silent, or to simply repost a moving image of Charlie and his family, share a Bible verse to encourage us regarding his sacrifices, then inevitably move on. God forbid.
Charlie’s working life demands a thoughtful response; his death, personable action.
I beseech you to consider:
1. Stop scrolling, reading and commenting…then simply continuing on as you have been. If this event in history is truly as moving as you feel, let it create change in your heart. What are YOU willing to do in response to this evil?
There is a clear spiritual battle between good and evil in our nation. It is RAGING. And it is not confined to the world out there, to the politics and the governing authorities; it is right in front of you- in your mind, on your phone, in your home, on the tip of your tongue, coming for your children, for your marriage and your friends. What are you going to do about it?
2. Radical change is needed in response to this radical crisis. And it starts with your relationship with Jesus, and your submission to His rule in your mind, with your time, in your home, with your children, your parenting, your marriage, your relationships, your idols of work, money and finances, status, and external appearances. Have you given Him all?
While the news covers extreme events that take up lots of space, the war against goodness did not creep in from those notable outliers; the darkest moments of this battle sneak into the corners of our lives because of our sins. Sins of commission and our sins of omission. I implore you: do not let your response to Charlie’s words and death become an omission.
Use his example to take every day, every conversation, as an opportunity to live out the gospel. Use his wife’s heroic response as a blueprint for shining light into the darkness. But before we can do this around us, we have to allow it to be done within us.
I charge you (& ask myself):
⁃ Are you spending time in God’s word? Not a Christian book, self-help podcast, or even at church- are you DAILY reading His words and seeking and learning the Truth?
⁃ Are you praying? Are you setting aside time to thank God, to worship who He is, to ask for His help, and invite Him into your mundane moments?
⁃ Are you leaving room for conviction within your heart, and responding to His calling?
⁃ Are you sharing the gospel with how you live your life, love your kids, and serve your family?
⁃ Are you being a good neighbor, both to those in your immediate circle and to those who believe differently than you?
⁃ Are you worshiping Christ in how you allocate your resources- your time, your money, and your skills? What businesses are you supporting?
⁃ Are you working to provide for your family, or are you enabling selfish ambition and worldly greed?
⁃ Are you established in habits that are God-honoring with 100% of your time and thoughts and interactions?
None of us are perfect and we will never achieve everything we are called to without the saving grace and sanctifying mercy of Jesus Christ. But we are called to obedience, and He promises to meet us where we are and lead us into His green pastures. He promises rest.
But before we can enjoy His rest, we are called to walk through the valley of the shadow of death. And we are. But we’re not alone- He is with us, and He has given us a way forward.
So, while I mourn Charlie’s passing and think often of his widow and children with tears in my eyes, I am thankful for the revival that his life has inspired. I am convicted to cherish my own life and every moment I’m given, to push back the darkness and reflect the Light of the world with as much faith, hope and love as Christ enables me to.
I pray you will join me in responding with reflection, prayerful supplication for strength to enact these changes in your personal lives, and that with every renewed household in our community and nation, we would be rooted and firmly established in Christ. Because the battle is His, and we know He has already won.
4:8 Physio stands with Charlie Kirk, and we stand with Christ.
