Tonya Maloy, 51, of Baker, FL, departed this earthly life on Friday, January 9, 2026.

Tonya was born in Andalusia, Alabama, to Aubrey Adolphus Maloy Jr. and Carolyn Maloy Fales. Tonya graduated from Baker High School in 1992 and the University of West Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and proudly remained a lifelong member of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology.

Tonya was a kind-hearted soul whose compassion touched everyone who knew her. She had a deep love for all animals, especially her cats: Jolene, Talya, and Ryder, who were truly her world, and whom she cared for with unwavering devotion. She had a beautiful sense of humor and a natural way of making people laugh. Laughter followed her into every conversation, and she often brought comfort and light, even during challenging times. She enjoyed reflecting on life and sharing stories with family and friends, creating moments filled with warmth, humor, and closeness. Photography was her greatest joy. She found inspiration through her camera lens, guided by her love of the natural world and a particular fondness for capturing wood ducks, ospreys, pelicans, and great blue herons. She had a special talent for capturing peaceful moments that others might miss, preserving them with patience and care. Her photographs reflected who she was: gentle, observant, and closely connected to the world around her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey A. Maloy Jr. and Carolyn Maloy Fales; her grandparents, Buford James Bryan and Maxine Cunningham Bryan, and Aubrey A. Maloy Sr. and Louise Reeves Maloy; her brother, David Denham; and her aunts, Marilyn Jinright, Sue Bryan, and Wanda Maloy McBrearty.

She is survived by her sister Gayle Edge; aunts Sharon (Roy) Hooks and Mary Maloy; uncles Joe Bryan, Ken Jinright, and Wayne (Mary) Maloy; niece Taylor (Kacie) Pierce. She also leaves behind many loving cousins and extended family who will cherish her memory, including her lifelong friends, who became her chosen family: Christi Green-Collinsworth, Tracy Ward, Jennifer Bailey, Merisha Johnson Phillips, and her dear friend Al Ponnwitz.

She lived gently, loved wholeheartedly, and laughed freely. She will be remembered for her kindness, her love of animals, and the way she made people feel seen, heard, and truly cared for. In every story shared, every moment remembered, and every life she touched, her spirit lives on. Her warmth and love remain with us, felt in laughter-filled rooms, in the beat of an ’80s song or early 2000s hip-hop that makes feet move on their own, and in the quiet beauty of nature.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life for Tonya on Saturday, April 25th, 2026, at 4:30 PM at 3195 Carmillo Lane, Laurel Hill, FL 32567. Please join us in sharing memories and laughter in her honor. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a local animal shelter, reflecting her lifelong love of animals.
