Parents of wanderers/elopers: if you're struggling to keep your child safe at school, speak to your child's doctor about this diagnostic code. The code can help establish the medical necessity for close, constant adult supervision throughout the school day. It can also support the implementation of essential safety measures, such as fencing, door alarms, visual cues, and a coordinated school-wide response plan.

In today’s world, it's rare for a child to be out & about alone without an adult, siblings, or peers nearby. If you see one, please check in. They might have , and you might save a life.

PS: We've seen this happen in schools as well -- teachers may think the student is running to the bathroom, or that they're just being a kid, and the student exits the building or schoolyard. Schools should ensure that all teachers are familiar with autistic students who attend the school as part of a school-wide emergency plan.
