Today’s mission?
✨ Building social skills through PLAY. ✨

What looks like fun and games is actually some serious skill-building in action. 💙

During this session, our friend was working on:

🎲 Taking turns
🎲 Sharing space and toys
🎲 Following directions
🎲 Problem-solving
🎲 Learning how to play with others—not just beside them

Play is powerful—and around here, it’s also therapy. 💙

Meet our Crestwood SLP team this Speech-Language Pathology Month 💙🗣️

Here’s what our amazing therapists say they love most about speech therapy ✨

Alex (they/them): I love that I get to be creative every day and find new ways to make kids engage and laugh! I love being challenged to take the knowledge I have of speech processes and apply that to play.

Alex (they/them): It's amazing to get a text from a parent with a video of a kid ordering ice cream by themselves for the first time, or hearing about how a kid was able to communicate that they were in pain and get help for it. I feel honored to have been a part of that in so many kids' lives!

Alex (they/them): It is incredibly satisfying to see a kid progress in their speech and language through an intervention you identified for them. I love that I constantly get to learn and try new things to match the unique needs of different kids.

Alex (they/them): I love being a part of an interdisciplinary team! I particularly love collaborating with occupational therapy and helping kids become more regulated by honing their ability to express wants and needs.

We are so thankful for the passion, creativity, and care our Crestwood SLPs bring to every session

💙 Today is Apraxia Awareness Day! 💙

Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder that affects how the brain plans and coordinates the movements needed for speech.

Children with apraxia know what they want to say, but the messages from the brain to the mouth may not send correctly—making speech difficult, inconsistent, or hard to understand. 🗣️

Some common signs of apraxia can include:
💙 Difficulty putting sounds and words together
💙 Inconsistent speech errors
💙 Trouble imitating words or sounds
💙 Delayed speech development

Every child with apraxia is unique, and every word spoken is a huge accomplishment worth celebrating. 🌟

Today we help spread awareness, understanding, and support for the amazing children and families navigating apraxia every day. 💙

🎤💬 SLP Month energy check 💬🎤

“Not every child is excited to come work on speech with us… and that’s completely fine…”

✨ “They’re going to love it here.” ✨

And that’s exactly what we aim for 💛

Because speech therapy is about connection, confidence, communication, and making progress feel fun and achievable every step of the way 👏

Here’s to our amazing SLPs who make every session meaningful, supportive, and full of growth 🗣️✨

Did you know? 💙

Cri du Chat Syndrome is a rare genetic condition caused by a deletion on chromosome 5. The name “Cri du Chat” means “cry of the cat” in French, named after the distinct high-pitched cry some infants may have.

Every child with Cri du Chat is unique, but some may experience:
💙 Developmental delays
💙 Speech and communication challenges
💙 Low muscle tone
💙 Differences in motor skills and learning

With support, therapy, and encouragement, children with Cri du Chat can continue building skills, confidence, and meaningful connections every day. 🌟

Awareness helps create understanding, inclusion, and support for individuals and families in the Cri du Chat community. 🌈

We wouldn’t change a thing 💙

Somewhere between the silly sounds, big wins, snack time negotiations, and “just one more turn”… our energy might look a little different by the end of the day 😅

But truthfully? We LOVE what we do. Every laugh, every word, every little moment is worth it.

Happy Speech-Language Pathology Month to the SLPs who give it their all (and then some) every single day 🗣️✨
