Did you know that we can convince ourselves of things aren't true? Reasoning Fallacies are used a lot in political debates, but we can also use them on our own minds. We may think that one small step will have MAJOR consequences without having any proof of it... making mountains out of molehills. Or we can create a "false dilemma," saying we've only got two options, when there are really more.
For example, if I'm pregnant, I may feel like my only options are to parent the child in my current difficult situation or to have an abortion. But there are other possibilities - I could get help to get out of an abusive relationship or get a better job. I could make an adoption plan - a loving way to give my child a chance at a beautiful life even if I don't feel able to provide it for them personally.
Getting down to the truth of a matter makes decisions a whole lot easier. As Jesus said in John 8, "the truth will set you free." It helps us walk in a way that's productive and pleasing to our Creator (Col. 1:9-10).
If you would like help sorting through your options and finding truth, you're not alone!
