Bowel Health = Pelvic Health (and Back Health, too!)

Did you know your bowel habits can directly impact your pelvic floor AND your low back pain?

When stool is too hard, too loose, or difficult to pass, the pelvic floor muscles have to work overtime. Chronic straining, urgency, or incomplete emptying can lead to:
✔️ Pelvic floor tension or weakness
✔️ Bladder and bowel leakage
✔️ Increased pressure through the spine
✔️ Worsening low back pain

Fiber plays a key role by helping regulate stool consistency, reducing straining, and lowering stress on both the pelvic floor and the low back.
• Soluble fiber helps firm loose stool and calm urgency
• Insoluble fiber helps keep things moving when constipation is the issue

Balanced bowel habits = less strain, better support, and improved movement.

If bowel changes, pelvic symptoms, or low back pain are interfering with your daily life, pelvic floor therapy can help you address the root cause - not just the symptoms.

How Can Occupational Therapy (OT) Help Children?

Occupational Therapy helps children build the skills they need for everyday life—at home, at school, and at play. If a child is struggling with daily tasks, OT can help make those activities easier, more comfortable, and more successful.

OT can help children with:
• Fine motor skills (handwriting, cutting, buttoning, tying shoes)
• Sensory processing & regulation (big reactions, meltdowns, difficulty focusing)
• Body awareness, coordination, and balance
• Self-care skills like dressing, feeding, and toileting
• Emotional regulation and attention
• Pediatric pelvic floor concerns (constipation, accidents, withholding)

What does OT look like for kids?
OT sessions are fun, play-based, and child-centered—while still working toward meaningful goals. Therapy might look like games, obstacle courses, crafts, or sensory activities, all designed to help your child succeed in daily routines.

The goal of OT:
To help children become more confident, independent, and comfortable in their bodies—so they can participate fully in school, sports, friendships, and family life.

If your child is struggling with everyday tasks, OT can help them—and you—feel supported.

Helping kids thrive, one skill at a time.

The foundation of occupational therapy is meaningful activity. 👐✨

Originally developed to help individuals regain independence after illness, injury, and mental health conditions—especially wounded soldiers returning from war—occupational therapy has grown into a highly skilled, evidence-based profession.

While techniques and tools have evolved, the core mission remains the same: helping people participate in the activities that give life purpose and meaning. 💙🏡

🦴 Why the Bony Pelvis Matters to Your Health

The bony pelvis is more than just a group of bones—it’s a key foundation for how your body moves and functions every day.

✨ What does the bony pelvis do?
• Supports your spine and upper body
• Connects your legs to your trunk for walking, running, and sitting
• Protects important organs like the bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs
• Provides attachment points for core, hip, and pelvic floor muscles

⚖️ Why it’s important:
When the pelvis moves well and is well-supported by muscles, it helps with:
• Good posture and balance
• Efficient movement
• Reduced back, hip, and pelvic pain

🩵💚Bottom line:
A healthy pelvis helps your whole body move better. Pain or stiffness in this area can affect more than you think—but it’s something that can often be improved with the right care.

If you’re experiencing back, hip, or pelvic discomfort, our clinic is here to help.

🩺 What Is the Pelvic Floor—and Why Does It Matter?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles at the bottom of your pelvis that works like a supportive hammock. These muscles play a big role in everyday health—for all genders and all ages.

✨ What does the pelvic floor do?
• Supports the bladder, bowel, and (for some people) reproductive organs
• Helps control bladder and bowel function
• Contributes to core strength, posture, and balance
• Plays a role in breathing and movement

⚠️ When the pelvic floor isn’t working well, people may notice:
• Leaking urine or stool
• Pelvic pain or pressure
• Difficulty emptying the bladder or bowels
• Back or hip discomfort

🧠 Good to know:
Pelvic floor issues are common and treatable. They can be affected by things like pregnancy, sports, surgery, chronic coughing, stress, or prolonged sitting.

💙 How we can help:
Pelvic health therapy focuses on improving strength, coordination, and relaxation of these muscles—helping you move and feel better in daily life.

If you have questions or symptoms you’ve been ignoring, you’re not alone—and help is available.
