👁️ September = Healthy Aging Month! 👵👴

As time goes on, so do changes in our eyes — but vision loss doesn’t have to be one of them. This month, we’re focusing on ways everyone can protect and preserve their sight for years to come.

Here are some ways to keep your eyes healthy as you age:

🔍 Get a comprehensive dilated eye exam — many age‐related eye issues (glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy) show few symptoms early on. Early detection makes a big difference.
National Eye Institute

🍏 Eat nourishing foods — dark leafy greens, fish rich in omega-3s, colorful fruits & veggies.
Glaucoma Research Foundation

😎 Wear sunglasses with full UV protection whenever you’re outside. UV damage adds up over time.
National Eye Institute

💧 Stay hydrated & protect eyes from dryness — especially indoors where air can be dry or heated.
📱 Take breaks from screens — follow the 20-20-20 rule (every 20 minutes, look at something 20 ft away for 20 seconds).

✅ At Boyd Family Eyecare, we’re here to help you see well for a lifetime. If it's been a while since your last comprehensive exam, now is the perfect time to schedule one. Message us or call us to book your appointment today!

Let’s age gracefully — and see clearly. 🙌

🌾👁️ Protect Your Eyes During Farm Work – National Farm Safety & Health Week 🌾

This week is National Farm Safety & Health Week, and here in our rural community, we know how important farm work is to daily life. Farming is one of the most rewarding — and also one of the most hazardous — professions.

➡️ Did you know? Nearly 200,000 eye injuries happen each year in agricultural settings, many of which could be prevented with proper protection.

Common farm-related eye hazards include:
✔️ Flying debris (dust, hay, grain, metal, or wood chips)
✔️ Chemicals and pesticides
✔️ UV damage from long hours in the sun
✔️ Livestock-related injuries

Tips to keep your vision safe on the farm:
👓 Always wear protective eyewear (ANSI-approved safety glasses or goggles)
☀️ Choose sunglasses with 100% UV protection for outdoor work
💧 Use caution with chemicals and always follow safety instructions
📅 Schedule regular eye exams to catch issues early

Your eyesight is one of your most valuable tools — don’t take it for granted!

At Boyd Family Eyecare, we’re here to help you and your family protect and preserve your vision for the work you do every day.

👉 Call us today to schedule your eye exam and ask about safety eyewear options designed for farm life.

September 11, 2001 – 25 Years Later

Today, we pause to remember one of the darkest days in our nation’s history. Twenty-five years ago, our country was attacked, and thousands of innocent lives were lost. We honor the memory of the fallen, the courage of the first responders, and the selflessness of those who stepped forward in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

From the firefighters and police officers who ran toward danger, to the ordinary men and women who became heroes, we will never forget your sacrifice.

May we always stand united, remembering that even in our greatest sorrow, the spirit of America shone through in bravery, compassion, and love for one another.

🙏 We will never forget. 🇺🇸

🧠👀 September is World Alzheimer’s Awareness Month!

Alzheimer’s disease doesn’t just impact memory—it can also change the way a person sees the world. Even if the eyes are healthy, Alzheimer’s can affect the brain’s ability to process visual information. Essentially, the “seeing” part of vision is fine, but the “understanding” part can be impaired. This can lead to:

Difficulty recognizing faces or objects

Trouble judging distances or depth

Problems with color perception

Increased sensitivity to glare

These changes can make everyday tasks, like driving, reading, or navigating familiar spaces, more challenging. Early detection and regular eye exams are crucial for helping loved ones maintain independence and safety.

If you notice changes in vision or visual behavior in someone with Alzheimer’s, schedule a comprehensive eye exam today. Your eyes—and your brain—will thank you! 👁️❤️
