Meet Ms. Rebecca (Becky) Trahan!

Did you know Ms. Becky was once a floor nurse right here at Southwind? After graduating nursing school in 1964, she spent 10 years working at a hospital before joining the Southwind family — where she continued caring for others until retiring at the incredible age of 70!

Ms. Becky is a proud mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she treasures the many memories she made throughout her nursing career. She believes the heart of nursing is simple: listen, help, and respect your residents.
Her advice to new nurses? Know your rules and policies… and remember, to get respect, you have to give respect.

One of the best changes she’s seen in nursing over the years is the strong focus on truly knowing residents — learning their preferences, listening to them, and helping keep them healthy, happy, and engaged. “That’s what nursing is all about,” she says.

One of Ms. Becky's favorite things about Southwind? “I know everybody and everybody knows me!” She says everyone here takes wonderful care of her, treats her with kindness and respect, and she highly recommends Southwind to others.

Thank you, Ms. Becky, for your years of compassion, dedication, and wisdom. We are honored that Southwind has been both your workplace and now your home.

This week, we proudly celebrate National EMS Week and recognize the incredible dedication, compassion, and courage of the emergency medical professionals who serve our communities every single day.
A heartfelt THANK YOU to the amazing teams in our community: 911 Acadia Parish Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness, Med Express Ambulance Service, Inc. and Acadian Ambulance for the loving care, professionalism, and rapid response you provide to those in need. You guys sacrifice every day.

Day 5 and the grand finale of National Nursing Home Week was one for the books! 💐✨

We started our morning with a fan-favorite breakfast casserole brunch and iced coffees prepared by our very own Life Enrichment Department — and let’s just say there were plenty of happy plates! 🍳🥓

The fun continued with colorful tie-dye shirt making, bringing out everyone’s creativity. 🌈👕

To top off an amazing week, an ice cream truck rolled in to treat both our residents and staff to some sweet goodies on a warm afternoon! 🍦

And the sweetest surprise of all… we hatched our very first duckling of the year! 🐥 It truly made our “Moments in Bloom” theme come to life right before our eyes.

What a wonderful week filled with smiles, memories, laughter, music, friendship, and love. Thank you to everyone who helped make this Nursing Home Week so special for our residents and staff!

Day 4 of National Nursing Home Week was another great day! 🌸🎪

We started our morning with Flower Bingo where our residents were winning “big bucks” with bingo dollars and plenty of fun. We then slowed things down with Bible Study and fellowship together. ✝️

To finish off the day, we turned our facility into a full carnival! 🍿❄️🍭🎡 Residents enjoyed popcorn, sno cones, cotton candy, circus peanuts, corn dogs, music, and all the fun carnival vibes.

One more day left of our fantastic Nursing Home Week celebration, and we are making every moment count!

Day 3 of National Nursing Home Week is always our favorite day!

We started our morning with rosary and communion, taking time for faith, fellowship, and reflection. ❤️

Then it was time to pass a good time Louisiana-style with a full Cajun crawfish boil! We enjoyed all the fixings, plenty of cold beer, great Cajun music, and even better company.🦞🍻🎵

To wrap up the day, we celebrated our monthly birthdays with music by DJ Greg and some delicious birthday cake for all of our special birthday residents! 🎂🥳

Another amazing day filled with smiles, music, memories, and lots of fun during National Nursing Home Week!

Day 2 of National Nursing Home Week was one for the books! 🐐🌻🎶

We kicked off the day with a visit from Rylan's Ranch Petting Zoo and our residents absolutely loved spending time with all of the adorable farm animals.

Later, everyone got creative painting pots and getting their hands a little dirty while planting vegetables and flowers. Nothing better than watching things bloom together! 🌱🎨

We wrapped up our fun-filled day with great music by Kaleb Olivier and delicious ice cream sundaes that hit the spot perfectly. 🍨

National Nursing Home Week is off to an amazing start, and we can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
