A Pennie for your thoughts? Our thoughts are that Encore’s Life Enrichment Director, Pennie, makes residents’ days at Encore brighter and more meaningful. Whether it’s learning to play the guitar from a determined resident to starting a garden to give our retired farmers a chance to keep doing what they love, Pennie is up for it! There’s something truly special about finding a place that feels like home—especially when your work is caring for others. For Krishen, a CNA who has traveled across four Southern states in her career, discovering that feeling at Encore has been nothing short of heartwarming.

Krishen shares, “Everywhere you turn, you’re met with smiles and positive attitudes.” It’s infectious—happiness at Encore seems to grow and spread. Having worked in several other nursing homes, Krishen knows firsthand how rare a supportive environment like this can be.

One person who made an impression right away is Ms. Sophie. “She’s the nicest supervisor I’ve ever had,” Krishen says with a grin. But it isn’t just Ms. Sophie: “There are so many managers here who’ve played an important part in my mentoring process. Whether it’s a word of encouragement after a long shift, or advice on handling challenging moments, I’ve always felt guided and uplifted.”

For Krishen, working at Encore isn’t just a job. It’s become a place to grow, connect, and care with a team that truly feels like family.

Meet Mr. Howard, Encore’s resident green thumb. Years ago, he grew okra, tomatoes, and eggplant in his home garden—now, he brings that gardening know-how to Encore. Mr. Howard’s top tips for thriving plants? Give them plenty of water, sprinkle on a little Seven Dust for healthy leaves, and use a mix of Dawn dish soap and water to keep those pesky aphids away (the safe and savvy way!).
