Thank you to those that were able to join us yesterday morning.

After a few busy weeks, I felt this might be a great topic for our walk.

Happy days
Based on a recent article I read recently, happy people tend to be healthier people. So what can we do to improve our outlook on life?

🌼Stay Connected: Personal connections with family and friends tend to be moods boosters. Make efforts to expand your social circle by either having a regular date for lunch with a friend, reach out via a zoom call to a friend, or join a sports league or club.

🌼 Volunteer: Studies have shown that volunteering provides a sense of purpose, which can improve one’s mood. Look around your community in areas that interest you.

🌼 Find your inner child: Revisit the activities you used to enjoy as a child or young adult. This may help you return to hobbies you enjoyed or find new ones to explore.

🌼 Invest in experiences: Use your money to help you enjoy new life experiences, dinner at an ethnic restaurant, a trip to the theater, or art exhibit. Experiences don’t need to break the bank, they provide memories to reflect back on when you need a mood boost.

🌼 Enjoy time in green spaces: Studies have shown that time spent in places like parks, gardens, and other green areas can perk your mood. Enjoy hiking your favorite trail, walking the beach, or exploring a nearby state park.

🌼 Change up your routine: People tend to feel happier when they change up their routines even just a small amount. A new workout routine can be just the thing to spruce your mood.

🌼 Embrace gratitude: Look around and see all the blessings that you have. Just 15 minutes spent practicing gratitude can enhance your emotional well being.

🌼 Smile more: Research has found that smiling more can improve your mood.

Lastly, don’t sweat the small stuff! Focus on what’s important to you. Realize that life is short, it’s so much more important to focus on doing the things that make you happy!

Go out and enjoy the beautiful summer days!

See you next month at Lemon Lake County Park.

Thank you to all our walkers this morning! The sun was shining and it was a great way to start Mother’s Day weekend.

So have you been sneezing, itching your eyes 👀, or blowing your nose 🤧 more recently?

It could mean you are experiencing some seasonal allergies. (Also referred to as Hay fever or allergic rhinitis).

Allergens that are bothering you can differ at different times of the year and vary in different areas of the country. Right now the tree pollen is the main culprit for symptoms, but the grass pollen will quickly be the main offender followed by the ragw**d and w**d pollen later in the summer/fall. If tracking this is something you enjoy, you can check out pollen.aaaai.org for levels that are updated by the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology.

Common symptoms:
✅sneezing/coughing
✅runny/stuffy nose
✅itchy eyes, nose, throat, or ears
✅fatigue or disturbed sleep

Common allergens
❌Pollen from trees🌲, grass, and w**ds
❌Mold spores
❌Pet dander 🐶🐱

How to manage:
🌟Check out the pollen counts before heading outside.
🌟Pollen tends to be lower 4am-noon and higher 2pm-9pm
🌟Shower, rinse your nose with nasal saline, and change your clothes after being outdoors
🌟Wear sunglasses and a hat to keep pollen out of your eyes and hair
🌟Keep windows closed when pollen levels are high

Treatment:
✅Over the counter antihistamines and nasal steroid sprays.
✅Use nasal saline to help clear nasal passages and to reduce congestion
✅For persistent symptoms, allergy shots or drops may help build a tolerance to certain allergens thus reducing symptoms.
✅Talk to your Doc if you need help with your allergies.

Wishing you all an enjoyable spring!

April has been a busy month already at Envision Health. Last weekend, we had our Healthy Cooking Class. Our chef, Dr Charles Mok, taught us how to use a Sous Vide to make the perfect steak while roasting some absolutely delicious baby potatoes in the air fryer. All enjoyed tasting what we had prepped. We look forward to our next class.

This weekend was our Walk With a Doc. What a gorgeous morning to enjoy the fairgrounds and discuss our health topic regarding stress.

April is Stress awareness month. Stress can cause significant health problems. We all have stress in our lives and may experience its effects in different ways.

Common issues we may see as a result of stress:
❇️Headaches
❇️Stomach issues
❇️Anxiety/Depression
❇️More serious health issues like strokes and heart attacks

How can we cope with stress:
⭐️Take care of ourselves: Eat healthy, exercise regularly, get a good night’s sleep regularly
⭐️Discuss what is stressing you out with a good friend or even a health professional
⭐️Avoid drugs and alcohol: these substances will not help deal with a stressful issue, in fact they may make it worse.

Lastly learn that there are issues that you cannot change or control and let them go!

Now get out there and enjoy the beautiful day and let that stress wear away!

Our walk was chilly but the sunshine was gorgeous!

Recently I began reading a book on Longevity. I know, I turned 50 and now want to learn all I can do to increase my life span and have quality of life. Truthfully this should concern all of us at a much younger age.

Our bodies do change as we age, but there are many things we can do to make that aging process a more healthy journey.

What can we do:
🚶🏻‍♀️Physical Activity🚶🏻
⭐️ can help manage and prevent disease, build strength, prevent falls, ease pain, and even help you live longer
⭐️ Types (Aerobic and Muscle Strengthening)
Aerobic: any activity that raises your heart rate such as walking, swimming, biking. Set a goal for 150 minutes/week
Muscle Strengthening: any activity that makes your muscles work harder than usual: lifting weights, lunges, yoga. Aim for 2x per week.

🥦 Nutrition🥑
⭐️Dietary needs change as we age
⭐️ Eat plenty of fruit, veggies, whole grains, healthy fat, and lean protein
⭐️ Focus on nutrients you need: calcium, fiber, vitamin D, B12 🥛
⭐️ Avoid saturated fat, added sugar, sodium, and artificial ingredients
⭐️ Stay hydrated 💦

😁 Mental/Social 😢
Our brain changes as we age (mental health, memory, learning). What can we do to help?
⭐️ Find new hobbies 🧶 and social activities
⭐️ Volunteer at your local church, school, hospital
⭐️ Try meditation or journaling
⭐️ Talk to your doctor about your mental health

Most important:
🩺Visit your doctor at least once a year for a checkup and a preventative plan. Get your necessary screening exams (pap smear, mammogram, colonoscopy) and vaccinations.

🛌 Get a good night’s sleep (7-9 hours) and follow a consistent sleep schedule

🚭 Quit smoking and avoid or limit alcohol. It will improve your health no matter how old you are or long you’ve done it

Our first walk of 2025 was a bit chilly but the sun was shining! It was a great day to be out walking!

Our topic for this health discussion focused on:
New year! New You!

Let’s discuss a healthy alternative for your diet that may actually treat and reverse chronic diseases.

What sort of diet might do that???

A Plant based diet 🌱
-Fiber filled, nutrient dense, and antioxidant rich 🌟
-Add your own herbs and spices 🌶️ as desired
-focused on eating a rainbow 🌈 of color of fruits and vegetables 🥗 🥦🥕🥑🍓🍇🍊
-Drink water for hydration 💧
-Eat a variety of plant protein (legumes🫘🫛, nuts, and seeds)
-Choose whole grains 🌾

Take it one step🚶‍♂️at a time, plan ahead and prep veggies for easy meal prep🥒, keep your favorite produce 🥭 out and visible for healthy snacking, stock your pantry so healthy meal ideas are available.

It was a chilly 🥶 morning this past Saturday for our walk. We spent the walk discussing resolutions.

Resolution: simply defined as a firm decision to do or not do something

Do we make them? Do we keep them?
What are some resolutions that you have made over the years?

Often we don’t stick to them so how can we improve on that??
✅Be realistic
✅Start small
✅Make it measurable
✅Be patient
✅Find accountability partners
✅Write it down
✅Make a plan
✅Stay Positive
✅Be flexible

Some ideas for your New Years Resolution:

Practice Gratitude
Reading regularly
Using recyclable containers
Taking the stairs

Whatever you choose, follow some of the above to allow that resolution to stick and become a habit.

Wishing you all a safe holiday and wonderful 2025 with you family and friends from Envision Health! See you next year! 🎉🎉🎉

It felt great to be back to our monthly walks!

February is American Heart Month. ❤️ This is a time when we all need to focus on cardiovascular health, especially women!!

This month, the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention is encouraging women to listen to their hearts and speak up for their health. Nearly 1/2 of women in the US don’t realize that heart disease is the leading cause of death in women.

What can we do???:
❤️ Check your blood pressure- if it’s >130/80 it is elevated! Go see your doctor and discuss what lifestyle modifications you can make to help reduce it and possibly start medications.

❤️ Get your cholesterol checked- It’s important to know these numbers and make changes to improve them and your heart health.

❤️ Eat a heart-healthy diet-Eating a diet rich in vitamins and nutrients and lower in sodium and saturated fat will help keep your blood pressure low and protect against heart disease and stroke. 🍓🍎🥑🥦🥕

❤️ Keep a healthy weight. People that are overweight or obese have a higher risk for heart disease.

❤️ Continue to get regular exercise. Exercise will help you maintain a healthy weight and lower your blood pressure. 🚶🏻‍♂️🚴🏂🏋️‍♂️

❤️ Don’t smoke. Smoking greatly increases your risk for heart disease. 🚭

❤️ Don’t ignore symptoms. Women often experience delayed recognition, diagnosis, and treatment. Be your best advocate. Reach out to your doctor if something doesn’t feel right.

Keep those hearts strong! 🩵💗❣️

See you next month!
