Neffy has been approved by the FDA and will be available soon. This is the first needle-free nasal spray to deliver epinephrine in place of an EpiPen or AviQ. Unfortunately, it is not yet available for children who weigh less than 66 pounds. Furthermore, it will not be appropriate for some people with nasal obstruction, and even an upper respiratory infection can limit its use significantly. Insurance coverage and pricing information is not yet available.

It is with great regret to inform you that we are closing our Portage office location effective June 30. The facility we are now located at can no longer provide adequate space for our needs. Allergy Asthma Care will continue to provide care at our other two locations in Crown Point and Valparaiso. We fully understand the burden this will pose for some our patients and deeply appreciate your trust over the years. We sincerely hope that we may continue our relationship at one of our other offices.

SOON TO BE OFF THE MARKET- AN OLD MEDICATION FOR COLDS AND FLU

Phynyleprine, an ingredient in over 260 over the counter cold and flu medications will likely be unavailable soon. It was first approved by the FDA in 1938 and has been found to be ineffective at relieving any significant symptoms of upper respiratory infections. This medication would never gain approval in the current process used by the FDA. Personally, I am very glad to see it removed-long overdue. It doesn't work!

Phenylephrine, a popular ingredient in many over-the-counter allergy and cold medicines, is ineffective in tablet form, an independent advisory committee to the US Food and Drug Administration unanimously agreed on Tuesday.

Epi WILL SOON BE AVAILABLE AS A NASAL SPRAY!!

Have you heard about the epinephrine nasal spray that may be available in the coming months? This spray would be approved to treat severe allergic reactions, called anaphylaxis, which are currently treated by epinephrine autoinjections - like some devices called Epi-pen and Auvi-Q. This new medication called Neffy is being developed by ARS Pharma.

A major potential benefit of Neffy compared to epinephrine autoinjectors includes decreased fear or hesitation to use epinephrine due to fear of needles or anxiety about administering an injection.

Available studies have demonstrated that drug uptake and concentrations are similar with Neffy 2.0mg intranasal, compared to commonly used autoinjectors which administer 0.3mg intramuscular.

The main limiting factor in use of Neffy may come down to insurance coverage of the medication. We will continue to follow new information as it becomes available and will be happy to discuss Neffy if it is approved by the FDA in the coming months.
