Solange, Kevin, and the woodshop team have taken on a fun project these past few months! They’ve been refurbishing old skateboards and adding their own flair- from paint to collage and even adding photos from 1970s woodshop magazines! So cool 😎 🛹 ✌️ Have you seen our blog lately? We have more photos from the woodshop skateboard project, as well as a few new posts you should go check out!

Our Story

Innisfree Village was founded in 1971 by a group of parents in Maryland and Virginia who were searching for a progressive alternative to institutional care for their growing children with intellectual disabilities. They envisioned a place where they would share their lives with their caregivers and would be considered family members.

Now more than four decades later, Innisfree has expanded to 550 acres, several therapeutic workstations, and 15 residential homes, two of which are in Charlottesville and serve Innisfree's coworkers who participate in the local community in various ways.

Innisfree's original blueprint has evolved as the needs of Innisfree's coworkers, volunteer caregivers, and long-term staff have evolved. Innisfree regularly reviews its work with purposeful reflection to determine what refinements need to be made. Remaining flexible and open to change has kept Innisfree vibrant and engaging for everyone who calls Innisfree home.
