After struggling with substance use from a young age and even attempting su***de, he turned his life around and now helps others who are going through the same thing as a Peer Recovery Support Specialist in NDARS’ A Way Out program. Ben’s experience gives him a unique ability to support and guide those in need. Today, Ben works alongside other professionals in the A Way Out & Connect to Recovery program at New Directions, who inspire hundreds of people each month to continue in their own recovery journeys. 📢 REMINDER! The McHenry County Substance Awareness Coalition is accepting applications for the Future Leader Scholarship, and applications are due in less than a week! The deadline for application submission is August 1, 2025.

The selected recipient will be notified by August 15th, 2025 and the scholarship check of $1,000 will be awarded at the International Overdose Awareness Day event on August 31st, 2025.

Please see the Scholarship Announcement below for more details on application requirements, scholarship guidelines and usage, submission instructions, and the selection process.
