Big news for Wisconsin funeral processions!

Governor Tony Evers signed legislation last week, Wisconsin Act 52, which now allows funeral lead vehicles to use purple flashing lights. This color symbolizing mourning and respect. The change improves safety, honors families, and aligns with practices in other states. Prior to the bill’s passage, Wisconsin law only allowed the lead vehicle in a funeral procession to be equipped with flashing amber lights.

Because so many municipal, utility and agriculture vehicles also use amber lights, the average person on the road has a harder time identifying the beginning of a funeral procession. Using purple lights provides more visibility and recognition as a funeral processions.

Haudenshield's is proud to have been an advocate for this legislation. We are grateful to the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association and lawmakers who helped make it happen. Our vehicles at Haudenshield Funeral Home vehicles are already equipped with purple lights to better serve families across the tri-state area.

Persistence pays off. This law is a meaningful step forward for our profession and the families we serve. 💜
