History has been made yet again for the Massage industry in Alabama! I was honored to be invited to the State Capitol today for the bill signing of SB136.

Garlan Gudger Jr. , our district Senator has not only changed so many positive things for Licensees across this state, but he has also shown up and shown out to ensure that Professional massage therapists are regulated by a reputable office of Government! Garlan Gudger has ignored special interests groups, he has listened to the working class, and he is WORKING for licensees in this state. Not just massage, but if you are required to maintain a license in the Great State of Alabama in order to earn a living, rest assured that our Senate Pro Tem has made historic changes for your regulatory process, and is continuing to make those changes this session! On May 19th, we are voting for Garlan Gudger District 4!

Effective Oct 1st 2026, Massage Therapy in this state will have oversight from the Alabama Department of Public Health!

Going forward, we will stand together and demand respect for our industry, shutdown negative rhetoric, and stand firm in the professional standards that Massage Therapists Deserve! WE ARE THERAPISTS and this bill changes the entire course for our industry!

The hardest part of my job is losing clients. Some pass away with critical conditions like cancer or various diseases, but some pass away because their bodies just give out. Barbara Blackwood Friedrich passed away 2 days ago because her body was just absolutely exhausted.

Barbara was my longest standing client. I had been massaging Barbara for 15yrs and she was always my closest friend as well as client. I massaged her sister Doris into heaven, and was there when her 2 great grandbabies were born and stood beside her when she lost her husband Richard. I cried with her when she lost her parents and her son Matthew. Barbara was more than a client, she was family. She helped build my practice, she supported be like clock work. Her patronage helped pay my rent for 15yrs.

We shared happy times, sad times, confusing times, and simple times. There will never be another person like Barbara Blackwood Friedrich! Prayers for her family and I am rejoicing as she holds Matthew, Richard, Doris, and her parents once again! Nobody talks about this part of being a massage therapist, but it absolutely HURTS when one of our beloved clients leave this Earth for their heavenly home!

As she enters into this season of a beautiful newborn and active toddler, let's all keep her in our prayers for a safe delivery, healthy baby, and easy recovery!
