There’s a lot of scary information online about vaccines and their ingredients, but vaccines keep kids healthy. Kids who aren’t sick are able to go to school, play with friends and thrive in their communities.

And while the internet doesn’t always have your best interests at heart, pediatricians do. If you have any questions about vaccines, don’t hesitate to reach out to your pediatrician.

Babies’ bodies respond well to vaccines because their immune systems are in constant learning mode. A baby’s immune system is ready for the hepatitis B vaccine as soon as they are born, and giving newborns the first dose of the vaccine within 24 hours of birth (with additional doses at 1-2 months and 6-18 months) remains the best protection against serious health problems like liver disease and cancer.

Note from the Office Manager ❤️

It’s no surprise to me that Dr. Tamara Sheffield has been named as a finalist in the Cullman Times Best of the Best award for the Pediatrician category. I’ve known that she is top notch from the start.
Although I don’t believe “campaigning” is fitting to receive an honor when you are in a Healthcare category, (and I know she she would not consider campaigning for even a second, because titles are not the type of thing she is interested in) I did want to let people know that she is a finalist, in case you wanted to cast a vote for your favorite. I think she is very deserving.

We, the employees and patients of Downtown Pediatrics, already know she is truly The Best ❤️

Measles spreads faster than any other infectious disease we know. That’s why it's often the first to reappear when vaccination rates drop. And it’s not just contagious—it’s dangerous. Measles can cause serious complications, including pneumonia, brain swelling, and even death. And when overall vaccine coverage falls, it opens the door for other diseases to come back, too, like pertussis (whooping cough), which has also been surging in recent years. The only way to prevent and protect yourself and others is to get vaccinated. Learn more: https://bit.ly/48wdquK

Pippa. She is taking a short break from napping to get a drink of water. We make sure it’s close enough that she doesn’t have to actually stand up for a drink. 😂
