We’re celebrating Sonia and Amber, our newest LOVE (Living Our Values Everyday) Award recipients for our value: Love. These two team members show up with compassion, gentleness, and human connection when it matters most. 🩷

Here’s what Love looks like in action:

🩷 Sonia
“Mr. C was hesitant to accept hospice until he met Sonia. She reassured him, encouraged him to accept support from the team, and often stopped at the grocery store to pick up items he needed since he couldn’t drive. She treated Mr. C and his wife like family.”

🩷 Amber
“I shared that a patient transitioning to hospice loved magazines but couldn’t afford them. Within minutes, Amber messaged to ask which ones she liked. She planned to bring them that same day during the admission. This is just one example of the countless ways she goes above and beyond.”

Thank you, Sonia and Amber, for living out our value of LOVE every single day — and for bringing comfort, dignity, and humanity to those we serve.

is just one week away — and your generosity can help make every moment count.

For 45 years, Hospice of the Piedmont has provided extraordinary, compassionate care to our community. So much of that care is only possible because of donor-funded programs that bring comfort, dignity, and support when it’s needed most.

Your gift helps grow and sustain programs such as:

• Hospice House — 24/7 inpatient care for patients who can no longer remain at home
• Compassionate Care Fund — ensuring no one is denied care due to financial hardship
• Kids’ Grief & Healing + Grief & Healing — support for children, teens, and families coping with loss
• Supportive Music, Companion Pets, Serenity Fund — comfort services that ease burdens and lift hearts

And this year, your impact can go even further. Thanks to a generous $10,000 matching gift, your donation for can be doubled.

Help us continue providing comfort, dignity, and hope for the next 45 years.

Meet Dakota 💙🐾

Hospice of the Piedmont had the honor of caring for a patient who loved her dog Dakota more than anything. It was her wish to stay at home independently with her beloved companion — the HOP team went above and beyond to make it happen.

Dakota is now part of a new family—complete with furry siblings, plenty of treats and snuggles, and all the love she deserves. HOP team member, Bonnie, welcomed Dakota into her heart and home!

We’re so grateful for a team that cares this deeply. 🐶✨

LOVE Award: ACCEPTANCE

Please join us in celebrating Beth and Robin, our latest recipients of the LOVE (Living Our Values Everyday) Award for Acceptance — embracing the realities of death with dignity and understanding.

✨ Beth leads our Death Doula Program and goes above and beyond to support our community, our clinical team, and our patients. Her leadership and compassion help bridge the gap in community education around end-of-life care.

✨ Robin recently cared for a patient whose only wish was to get home to be with her husband and dogs. Not only did Robin ensure a safe, confident transition home, she stayed with the family long past her shift to provide comfort and guidance when support was delayed.

Beth and Robin embody Acceptance through their calm presence, deep empathy, and unwavering commitment to honoring each person’s journey.

Help us congratulate them!

Today is Children’s Grief Awareness Day.

In Virginia, 1 in 12 children will experience the death of a parent or sibling before turning 18. Many of these young people become “silent grievers,” carrying their sadness in ways adults may not always see.

At Hospice of the Piedmont, our Kids’ Grief and Healing team provides compassionate support to children and teens as they navigate loss. Through programs like our Journeys camps, teen groups, and creative expression activities, we help youth ages 4–18 form connections, express their emotions safely, and develop the coping skills they need.

If your child or a child you love is grieving, we are here to help—today and every day. Visit: https://bit.ly/3Myl9id
