Every Thursday at Branchlands The Linden House, Clara George Music from The Front Porch brings music to a hospice patient living with dementia.

The patient's daughter Beth told CBS19 News: Charlottesville News First, “Mom doesn’t know her grandchildren or great-grandchildren, but Clara sings the song and words come out. It’s beautiful. Something about the brain remembers music.”

Hospice care is not only for the final days. It is about improving quality of life, often for months, and moments like this are proof.

Recently, Molly was honored with the LOVE Award for Leadership, and it’s easy to see why.

In addition to her responsibilities as a Director, Molly has been hitting the road nearly every day to ensure patients are seen, supported, and cared for. She leads by example, and her team notices.

The LOVE Awards celebrate employees who are Living Our Values Everyday. And Molly lives it, all the way.

Grief touches all of us, but no two losses are alike.

Our General Grief Group in Charlottesville is a six-week series where you can explore your own experience of loss alongside others who understand. Each week we’ll focus on a different theme, share strategies for coping, and find strength in community.

This is a guided group that builds from week to week, so we ask that you commit to attending each session. You’ll receive a book to guide discussions and activities along the way.

📅 Mondays | Aug 25 – Sept 29
⏰ 3:30–5:00 PM
📍 Charlottesville

Any loss is welcome, recent or long ago, sudden or expected. Many participants come unsure what to expect, and leave knowing they’re not alone.

Love takes many forms in hospice care… and yes, sometimes it looks like the IT team showing up with a calm voice and a fix to your frozen screen.

Our IT Department was honored with the LOVE Award for Love, which we define as caring for others as we would our own loved ones. They do just that, day in and day out, supporting staff with patience, kindness, and the occasional miracle.

They don’t just solve tech issues. They care for our team like family.

At Hospice of the Piedmont, our Kids' Grief & Healing Team reaches out in powerful ways to support children and teens through loss — always at no cost thanks to community philanthropy.

Whether it’s through specialized workshops, our Journeys Camp, or one-on-one counseling, we’re here to walk beside young people as they navigate grief. Our team also partners with schools, libraries, and community groups to share resources, open conversations about grief, and remind kids they’re not alone.

A big shoutout to Culpeper County Public Schools and Albemarle County Public Schools for partnering with HOP this weekend at your back-to-school events! Together, we’re creating safe, supportive spaces for kids to explore their grief and find hope.

Because of community support and partnerships, we can continue to bring comfort, connection, and healing to young hearts that need it most. Learn more: https://hopva.org/kids-grief-and-healing/.
