Our first-ever Art & Dying event at The Fralin Museum of Art was completely sold out!

Thank you to our friends at The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia and to everyone who joined us for this unforgettable evening of reflection and conversation. Together, we explored how art can help us see death - and life -differently.

As a community-based nonprofit hospice, we’re proud to create spaces like this where our community can gather, learn, and grow.

Grief doesn’t always speak in full sentences. Sometimes, it hides behind silence. Or, waits for a safe space to be seen.

In this imaginative grief workshop, we’ll use sock puppetry to explore what’s hard to say aloud. Create a puppet, give it a voice, and let it tell part of your story.

🧦 Friday, Oct 24 | 3–6 p.m.
🎨 Bring a clean sock—we’ll provide the rest.

What does this painting suggest about how people want to die?

This is “The Death of Eudamidas” by Bruno Civitico, one of the works we’ll explore together at Art & Dying, a new event co-hosted by Hospice of the Piedmont and The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia.

Through small-group conversations guided by a museum educator and a hospice death doula, we’ll reflect on death through the lens of art.

Grief can be quiet. Heavy. Hard to talk about. Especially for men.

That’s why we created Mending the Line, a day-long fly-fishing workshop for men navigating the death of a loved one.

No therapy sessions. No pressure to talk. Just the steady rhythm of the river, a line in the water, and a space to breathe.

🎣 Saturday, October 4 | 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

💬 “Is hospice just for people who are dying?”

That’s one of the most common questions we hear. And it’s one of the many questions Hannah will be answering at this year’s Active Aging Fair at The Center at Belvedere.

If you’re wondering about when to start care, how insurance works, or whether you can still see your own doctor, come ask Hannah, our Community Navigator. She’ll be there to answer your questions and help you explore how hospice or palliative care might help someone you love.

📍 Saturday, Oct. 4 | 10 AM – 1 PM
📍 The Center at Belvedere

Because sometimes the most important question is the one you’re scared to ask.
