Emergency Preparedness Exercise - Volunteer Participants Needed

This week all health districts across Virginia are participating in an Emergency Preparedness Exercise to help us practice our response to a simulated outbreak of a new strain of influenza. As part of this exercise our health district will be operating a Point of Dispensing (POD) on Thursday 4/30 from 2 to 4 pm at Culpeper Health Department.

We need volunteer participants to go through the POD. If you are in the area please stop by for a few minutes and help us prepare for emergencies. There is no real emergency and no actual medication will be given out during this event!

On Wednesday evening in Warrenton, we celebrated our volunteers for National Volunteer Week with an appreciation event that included epidemiology presentations by volunteer physician Andrew Yeager and District Epidemiologist Daniel Ferrell.

It was a fun day yesterday at the Orange County Employee Wellness Fair! Cate and Noreen got to help county employees learn how to recognize the signs of stroke and act quickly by calling 911. They also provided naloxone training and other public health emergency preparedness information. It was truly a wonderful event, with plenty of valuable resources for everyone.

The Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District (RRHD) has earned national re-recognition through Project Public Health Ready (PPHR) for its ability to plan for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies.

Awarded by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), this honor reflects RRHD’s commitment to emergency readiness and coordination with local, state, and community partners.

“This recognition affirms our team’s dedication to protecting the health and safety of every person in the region,” said RRHD Director Dr. James Carr.

RRHD joins over 550 health departments nationwide with this distinction.
