Diagnosis is half the battle, but recovery is the ultimate goal! For a Rim Lesion, our physical therapy roadmap is a careful, staged approach focused on stabilizing the injury and gently reintroducing movement.
Step 1: Calm the inflammation — Rest, gentle immobilization, and pain control.
Step 2: Support & heal — Soft collar, ultrasound, or gentle electrical stimulation.
Step 3: Restore movement — Gradual reactivation starting with simple eye and neck coordination exercises.
And here’s one prevention tip everyone should know:
Check your car’s headrest position!
The top should sit around the middle of your head — not your neck.
This crucial position allows it to catch your head early in a crash, preventing the violent backward whip that often causes the rim lesion tear in the first place!
