We offer speech and language therapy to both children and adults in English, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, and Signed Exact English. We also offer dysphagia therapy and VitalStim therapy to adults with swallowing disorders. Here's a quick look at some of our programs:

* A-TEAM SOCIAL SKILLS LANGUAGE PROGRAM meets weekly on Tuesdays from 3:30-5:30pm or Saturdays from 9:30-11:30am and from 12:30-2:30

pm. The program addresses the social communication problems of children with autism spectrum disorders, Asperger's Syndrome, and other diagnoses which result in impaired social interaction. It is offered during the school year for children ages 3-17 years.
* DRAMA KINGS AND QUEENS is one of our newest innovative programs and meets on Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30pm. This weekly drama program exposes children with special needs to acting and off-site theatrical experiences. The program combines speech and language with theatre arts.
* "READING WITH FRIENDS" LITERACY PROGRAM meets twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30pm. It utilizes a balanced approach to literacy training for children with special needs.
* COMMUNICATION PARTNERS PROGRAM is a 12-week workshop that meets once weekly to teach parents and caregivers how to stimulate age-appropriate speech and language development, cognition, and motor and play skills.
* SAY N' PLAY SUMMER SPEECH CAMP offers a fun, 8-week, thematically based program which essentially provides 6 hours a day of speech and language stimulation within a camp-like atmosphere. This is one of our most popular programs for children with autism and special needs 3-16 years of age.

It is April, Autism Awareness month! During this month, we are proud to showcase LA Speech & Language Therapy Center’s training program, Spectrum Shield. The purpose of the training is to promote trust, greater awareness and a positive dialogue to ensure the safety of young adults with autism, many of whom are driving and functioning independently in their communities.

In 2016, Dr. Pamela Wiley, in response to the unarmed shooting of Charles Kinsey by a police officer, partnered with retired Lt. Stan Campbell, formerly with Oklahoma Police Department, to develop Spectrum Shield, a 3-day, 2-night, Safety with Law Enforcement training program, held on 5-acre ranch in Los Angeles County. See the video to see our program in action.

If you are interested in joining us at our next training in August, 2024, please “like” this post, share and/or comment.

This Women’s History month, we proudly celebrate living legend Dr. Gloria Tolliver Weddington, Professor Emerita in Communicative Disorders & Sciences at San Jose State University, board member of The Wiley Center for Speech and Language Development and world-renown leader in communicative disorders. We are grateful for her leadership, mentorship and service.

Years ago, a young college student, Dr. Pamela Hubbard Wiley, took Dr. Weddington’s class on a fluke, became passionate about the field of speech and hearing, and was determined to follow in her mentors’s footsteps. Dr. Weddington took Dr. Wiley to the first of many state and national conferences to meet other students and leaders and participate in the speech therapy movement on a national level. She was a great mentor to Dr. Wiley who founded and grew LA Speech and Language Therapy Center Inc., now celebrating 45 years of service to thousands of individuals and their families in Southern California and worldwide.

A champion of students and professionals around the world, Dr. Weddington has developed Communicative Disorders programs throughout the world including Saudi Arabia, Guam & Micronesia, Guyana, Uganda and South Africa.

We honor and are grateful to Dr. Weddington for being a model human being and the pioneer, who encouraged generations of speech-language pathologists throughout the world to reinforce the belief that “Communication is a human right.” We are inspired by her and her continued willingness to be of service to people globally.

Message from Dr. Pamela Wiley: “This situation is truly a tragedy. My heart goes out to the family. Parents and other Caregivers, I can’t stress enough the importance of telling first responders, ‘My child has autism. Please do not hurt him/her. Again, my child has autism!’ We can only hope that law enforcement will rely on less lethal methods to resolve such situations in order to minimize the chance of fatalities.”
