Anyone share this comfort movie 😭

Rewatching a comforting movie again and again is a gentle form of self-soothing and emotional regulation. Familiar stories (*Edward) provide(s) predictability, lowering cognitive load so your brain can relax instead of bracing for surprises. This sense of safety reduces stress and anxiety, while nostalgia often boosts mood, fosters belonging, and reconnects you to positive memories or simpler times. Also Twilight forever ♥️🫶🍎

Intrusive thoughts! 🌀

For those with OCD, intrusive thoughts are ego-dystonic, meaning they go against your personal values. That is why they spike so much anxiety! They are tailored uniquely to your brain’s fears. Calling it out as an intrusive thought helps depersonalize it— that’s not you, that’s an intrusive thought 🫶

When we carry unprocessed trauma, it can affect every facet of our lives. We have a saying in therapy that goes, “if it’s big, it’s likely old” meaning that if the reaction is bigger than the situation calls for, it likely struck a cord that has been struck before in your life. These moments make up our “negative cognitions” - negative beliefs we have about ourselves. As an EMDR therapist, I help clients significantly diminish these cognitions to transform an inner shift toward self-compassion and empowerment. This is healing! ❤️‍🩹

Did you know that OCD is a form of anxiety? 🧐 When the fear takes over, it can feel like mental gridlock. 🧠

Anxiety affects our cognitive flexibility, making it hard to shift focus, leave things unfinished, or let go of irrelevant details. This rigid focus can lead to overthinking, procrastination, and even difficulty making decisions—because every choice feels heavy with doubt.

Anxiety, with its toll on working memory, amplifies the sense of stuckness. Whether it’s the perfectionism that halts progress or the inability to filter out obsessive fears, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture—missing the forest for the trees.

The cost of overthinking? Missed deadlines, strained relationships, or struggling to move forward. But awareness is the first step. You can find your way out of the mental gridlock. 🌿

Therapy Meme Mondayyyy ✨ 💅

A loving reminder that in times of heightened emotions, practicing emotional regulation is especially important. Our feelings and reactions are valid, but learning to manage them can help us stay grounded and connected with those around us. Taking a few moments for deep breathing, mindful reflection, or even stepping outside for fresh air can work wonders in managing our responses.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, remember it’s okay to take a break from the news, media, and discussions. Engaging in positive, healthy distractions or connecting with supportive people can create a balanced mindset, allowing us to approach conversations with openness and empathy. Small acts of self-care add up, empowering us to stay centered, no matter what’s happening around us. Take care, everyone 🫶✨

✨ Anxiety 101: The Art of Turning Everyday Situations into Mini-Movies of Doom ✨

Anxiety isn’t just worrying—it’s like your brain is a DJ stuck on the “What If” remix. It can turn a simple text from your boss into an elaborate movie plot where you’ve been fired, lost your apartment, and are living under a bridge with a raccoon roommate. Anxiety lovesss catastrophizing 😇🤗

Here’s what anxiety likes to remind us of:

1. Did you lock the door? (Yes, you did. 3 times. But what if this is the one time you didn’t?)
2. That thing you said 2 years ago? Let’s replay it on loop at 3 AM.
3. The “hey can you chat tomorrow?” message? Obviously they hate you and need to tell you all the ways you’ve FAILED THEM.

While anxiety can feel overwhelming, there are tools and techniques to manage it (like breathing exercises, grounding techniques, or talking it out with a therapist). My personal favorite is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Exposure Response Therapy combined with somatic and mindfulness work and a trauma perspective 🥰Remember, you don’t have to battle those “What If” scenarios alone.

The medical model can be spooky 👻

It’s time to tell people a new story about who they are, why they experience symptoms, & how they can be active participants in creating mental wellness. 🌱

It’s time to tell a new story of healing, of empowerment, of the truth that our minds & bodies are made to heal. 🌻

“For those habituated to high levels of internal stress since early childhood, it is the absence of stress that creates unease, evoking boredom and a sense of meaninglessness. People may become addicted to their own stress hormones, adrenaline and cortisol, Hans Selye observed. To such persons stress feels desirable, while the absence of it feels like something to be avoided.“ - trauma expert Gabor Mate in “When the Body Says No”

I KNOW my high achievers out there can relate to this one. It’s a love/hate relationship with stress! Anybody out there love those murder mystery documentaries? Have you ever asked yourself why? 🤔 Stress can be helpful, but don’t let it become chronic. Make sure you’re taking the time to RECOVER, and challenge yourself to do it without the price tag of guilt. 💪🫶✨
