When your provider prescribes medications for anxiety and depression, they take an empirical approach in order to decide between therapeutically equivalent drugs. This means that if clinical guidelines for anxiety/depression say that first-line therapy should be with a drug from a certain class, the prescriber will select a drug based on past observation or experience from a list of 20+ options.
After making this best-educated guess, you'll need to wait it out 4-6 weeks (!) to determine if the drug works for you, then if not, they'll go back to the long list and choose another medication to try next. It's like throwing a dart at a dartboard and hoping you hit the bullseye on the first try!
Sound like there should be a better, more direct way to shorten this prescribing odyssey? THERE IS!
By completing a PGx (pharmacogenomic, or DNA) test, Bespoke Health can use precision medicine strategies to predict which medications are likely to be effective, as well as which ones are more likely to cause side effects for you.
