Such an enlightening time to be alive! 🤗 Systems are crumbling. YAY.

As a mental health professional for our youth I have been dreaming of the days when our mental health field would be turned on it's head. It is wildly exciting to watch the unraveling take place.

As a parent, I am psyched for the woo woo and hippy dippy ways to becoming more and more mainstream. Yes please to seasonal living. Give me those gatherings around the fire, complete with the wails and hugs of generations past. Medicinal plants, mmmhmmm.

Can you take a second with me?

Imagine what it would look like if our teens were offered courses on topics like seasonal living, empowerment and stewardship. Or, "home economics" and "shop"??

What do you envision when you think of teens being offered skillsets and belief systems that could set them on a trajectory of peace, love and joy?

I go BIG with the possibilities.

So much so I created a curriculum for teens and twenties.

The label was intended as a code so insurance could bill.

It was about money.

Big Pharma it also about the money. But, I digress.

Our teens are being overfed labels and medications and building identities and personalities from it. 👀

😖 The mental health system isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Honestly? I'm beyond sick of it.

Our youth are struggling because we bought into a system that needs them broken.

What we focus on grows.

And our teens are soaking it all up. 🌱

Their healing begins when we shift our focus.

🩷 Empowerment.

Our teens can live a childhood that feels better than what our systems are telling them. Waaaay better.

The sooner parents (and schools!) offer spaces for their teens to tap into their intuition the sooner we'll see a decrease in the heartbreak.

🦋 What if we invited our teens into new ideas of self identity?

Finding a rhythm with Mother Nature and seasonal living and getting to the root of their beliefs of self.

Disorders and medications won't touch that.

It's the worst feeling as a parent when you see your child struggling. 😖

Sometimes missing school is the exact right move.

If the environment where they are spending enough hours it's a full-time job doesn't feel kind or fulfilling, why would they want to go...

Because the adults said so?

Sometimes therapy is the same song and dance around their trauma.

If the clinical setting makes them cringe because of the stigma, why would they want to go....

Because the adults said so?

I've been in the mental health field for over 20 years.

Providing intensive in-home counseling services to families. Working in psychiatric hospitals and residential facilities. Day in and day out.

I saw what they see.

The burnout, paperwork, diagnosis loop that is our mental health system.

The same loop seems to plague our education system as well.

As a mental health professional who left the clinical field, I believe in following the energy.

Don't force.

🌱 Find the passive ways to access their brains.

Get your people together - the ones who guide YOU. These wise ones will be the wading around while the kids crash and bumble, ready to offer a morsel of hope and connection.

Place the resources around the house. The 800 digits, fidgets, and books! They'll be alone in the house and bored one day. You never know what sentence might stand out.

Offer mental health support with a teen life coach. Removes the stigma, feels a little more solution focused and less about that gosh darn insurance coding. 🫶

Get curious about what life could feel like for your child if the constraints of "how to human" were removed from your well-intentioned belief system. What could happen if they forged ahead in their own time and way?

This might be their cocoon stage.

We get to be the wild flowers ready to embrace them as they emerge.
