a love story

after a primary c-section and a twin VBAC on the OR table (with one breech twin, btw!), Katee had this. This beautiful, empowering birth on her terms in her own house. Her three boys sleeping upstairs as she labored through the downstairs, moving back and forth from the pool to the bed. Safe, supported, held and loved through it all - Katee and Cole met their (surprise!!) daughter in the glow of their bedroom. Calm but alert, perfect and whole.

this birth was such a beautiful display of trust, intuition, patience, power and surrender. What an immense honor to witness embrace her strength and vulnerability to bring her sweet daughter, Harper Kimberly, earthside. 💛🌈

We hear a lot about the benefits of immediate skin-to-skin for moms and babies. It stabilizes baby's heart rate, blood sugar and body temperature, releases surges of oxytocin - enhancing feelings of love, safety and comfort, passes antibodies from your immune system to protect your baby from illness, and lowers stress after a pretty stressful event!

All of this is true for skin-to-skin with Dads, too! While it boosts dad's oxytocin, it also lowers his testosterone - making him feel lighter, more relaxed and at ease. It gives dads the opportunity to tune into a stronger sensitivity to and awareness of baby's needs and building the foundation of a deep father-baby bond.
