This animated special was conceived and written by Harry Nilsson. It was a parable about a boy named Oblio, who lives in a land where each inhabitant was required to have a point - literally. Oblio does not, and like all who don't conform in such animated situations, he was given a hard time.

For this original broadcast only, Dustin Hoffman provided the narration. For contractual reasons, it was redubbed for subsequent broadcast, but Ringo did honors for the home video release.

The song "Me and My Arrow" from this project became a minor hit; it was also licensed for a Plymouth commercial.
