Allegany County Health Department - Cumberland Maryland Healthy People, Healthy Communities The Allegany County Health Department is located in the rural mountains of Western Maryland.

In June 2006, we moved to two new buildings on Willowbrook Road in Cumberland. The Corporate Building is the bigger building located closest to the road, and houses the departments of Adminstration, Environmental Health, Mental Health System's Office (CSA), Nutrition Services, Physical Health, and the Public Health Preparedness Office. ๐Ÿ“ž Do You Have a Disaster Communications Plan?

Emergencies can strike fast and without much warning. If your family is separated, will you know how to reconnect?

โœ… Collect important contacts (family, schools, doctors, work) โ€” write them down.
โœ… Make sure each family member has a copy in their wallet, backpack, or phone.
โœ… Choose two meeting places: one nearby, one farther away.
โœ… Practice your plan and keep it updated.
โœ… Text, donโ€™t call โ€” texts are more likely to go through when networks are busy.

Preparing now means less worry later. https://bit.ly/4hVF2NX

September is National Preparedness Month. This is a great time to take small steps to make a big difference in being prepared. Getting yourself, your family and your home ready for emergencies like home fires, power outages, severe weather, and local floods lets you be in control of both your safety and those you care about before, during and after a disaster.

Think about what youโ€™ll need and how the people in your social circles can help each other. A great place to start is by knowing the risks where you are. Then, make a plan and build an emergency supply kit to help keep yourself and those you love safe and comfortable during and after a disaster. Finally, get involved by keeping up to date with your communityโ€™s emergency and disaster plan and working with neighbors to prepare.

When making your plans, make sure you consider any unique needs of those you care for (medical conditions, disabilities, the elderly, pets care, etc.) and assist neighbors who might need help getting prepared.

Opioid Restitution Fund Advisory Council Public Survey: Recommended Uses for Prescription Opioid Settlement Funds

The Opioid Restitution Fund Advisory Council provides recommendations annually for using prescription opioid settlement funds in Maryland. As the council works to finalize its recommendations for 2025, they are requesting input from the public on how they would like to see settlement funds be used to address the harms of the opioid and overdose crisis.

Members of the public are invited to share their thoughts by September 5th, 2025. Submissions will be shared with the Advisory Council ahead of their upcoming meeting on September 15th. You can access the survey through this link:
