🌿 Mindful Monday with Progressive Physical Therapy 🌿

This week’s focus: the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique. When your mind feels busy or overwhelmed, pause and notice 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. This simple exercise brings your attention back to the present moment.

Grounding techniques like this can help reduce stress, improve focus, and even decrease muscle tension that builds throughout the day. It’s especially helpful when you’re feeling distracted, anxious, or stuck in a cycle of overthinking.

Today’s challenge: try the 5-4-3-2-1 method once during your day and see how it resets your mind and body. 💙

Are you having pain in your shoulder with overhead activities? It could be shoulder impingement. Check out the information below for this month's Friday Facts!

Shoulder impingement can be a painful and frustrating condition, but physical therapy is one of the most effective ways to find relief and restore function. This condition occurs when the tendons in the shoulder become compressed or irritated, leading to pain, limited mobility, and difficulty with overhead movements. Whether it's from overuse, poor posture, or injury, shoulder impingement can significantly affect your daily activities. Seeing a physical therapist early on can help address the underlying causes of the condition and prevent it from worsening.
Physical therapy for shoulder impingement focuses on reducing pain, restoring mobility, and strengthening the muscles around the shoulder. A physical therapist will guide you through a tailored program of stretches, strengthening exercises, and manual therapy techniques to alleviate the pressure on the shoulder joint and improve your range of motion. They will also work with you on correcting posture and movement patterns, ensuring that your shoulder moves properly and reducing the risk of further irritation or injury. With consistent therapy, you’ll experience less pain and greater flexibility in your shoulder joint.
In addition to relieving pain, physical therapy for shoulder impingement provides long-lasting benefits by helping you prevent future issues. By strengthening the rotator cuff muscles and improving shoulder mechanics, physical therapy helps stabilize the shoulder and reduces the risk of re-injury. You’ll also improve your overall function, making it easier to return to sports, work, and everyday activities with less discomfort and greater confidence. If you’re dealing with shoulder impingement, don’t wait—schedule an appointment with Progressive and start your journey toward pain-free movement today!

The answer for this week's trivia question is:
B. Quadriceps
While the other muscles listed may help contribute to stability when standing from a chair or going up the stairs the quadriceps helps to straighten the knee, and thus is the primary mover when performing these activities
