Are you or someone you know considering a knee replacement? See below for some information on knee replacement's for this month's Friday Facts!

Recovering from a total knee replacement (TKR) can be a challenging process, but physical therapy is a game-changer when it comes to regaining mobility and strength. After surgery, your knee needs time to heal, and physical therapy plays a critical role in helping you restore function. The main goals of rehab are to reduce pain, improve range of motion, and strengthen the muscles around your new knee to ensure it works smoothly and efficiently. With the right therapy, you’ll be able to walk, climb stairs, and perform daily tasks with greater ease and confidence.
Physical therapy after a knee replacement is tailored to each individual and helps speed up recovery by addressing specific needs. Your therapist will guide you through exercises designed to increase knee flexibility and strengthen the quadriceps and other muscles that support the knee joint. This improves stability and prevents complications such as stiffness, weakness, or improper gait patterns. Additionally, physical therapy helps manage post-surgery pain and swelling, ensuring you recover in the most effective way possible.
Beyond just the physical healing, physical therapy for total knee replacement offers long-term benefits. By improving strength, flexibility, and function, physical therapy helps you get back to enjoying activities you love, like walking, biking, and even light sports. It also reduces the risk of future injuries and helps prevent issues in the other joints, like the hips or lower back, which can become strained as you adjust your movement patterns. If you’re going to be undergoing a knee replacement, follow up with Progressive to speed your recovery and get back to living!

For this month's "Mindful Monday" see below for some information on Box Breathing:

Today, let’s focus on one simple yet powerful mindfulness technique: box breathing — a method used by athletes, therapists, and even first responders to calm the mind and body. It’s easy: inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, and hold again for 4 seconds. Repeat this a few times and notice how your heart rate slows, your thoughts settle, and your focus sharpens.

Taking just a few minutes each day for mindful breathing can help reduce stress, improve concentration, and even enhance physical recovery. Whether you’re managing pain, building strength, or simply navigating a busy day, mindfulness can be an important part of your overall wellness. 💙

Try it today — pause, breathe, and be present. Your mind and body will thank you.
