I am an ACE-certified (American Council on Exercise) Personal Trainer passionate about helping others achieve their fitness and health goals. I have continued education in pre- and post-natal fitness, back, shoulder and knee injury rehabilitation, osteopenia and osteoporosis and am a Lifestyle & Weight Management Consultant. Working full-time as a Personal Trainer since 2005, I have been fortunate enough to grow my clientele strictly by word-of-mouth, and work with several doctors in the north Atlanta metro area. In 2007, I co-founded and opened a Personal Training Studio in Alpharetta, GA that is still in operation (now named Emery Fit, previously named Studio One to One). I write health and fitness articles regularly for local newsletters, magazines, am a paid contributor to Livestrong.com, eHow.com, and am a Strength Training expert on Allexperts.com. Through my years of training, I have worked with men and women aged 15-80, all with various fitness goals. I take pride in staying abreast of the latest fitness techniques and have been professionally educated using the TRX Suspension Trainer, Kettlebells, Bosu balance trainer, WaterRower, HIIT and plyometric training, cardiovascular training as well as traditional weight training. I am a Knee Injury Specialist through the American Council on Exercise. I am CRP & AED certified by the American Heart Association. I currently train clients in my home gym in Cumming, GA, but also mentor and refer business to several area trainers with much more availability than myself.

I DID IT!!!!

Hallelujah, I’m so relieved this is done. This was seriously the hardest certification I’ve done.

I can now do Lunch & Learns at businesses and schools regarding nutrition, private grocery shopping trips, healthy cooking classes and work with special populations such as children, elderly, pregnant, vegans/vegetarians, and various elite athletes regarding nutritional needs, to scratch the surface.

Please spread the word and keep me in mind if I can help anyone you know.

For the next few months I’m going to rest my eyes and brain until my next specialty certification!

Happy Thanksgiving week, everyone! I’m all about enjoying the special food, drinks and desserts during the holidays. There’s no need to deny yourself, just focus on filling your plate with lots of colorful vegetables, protein and 2-3 spoonfuls (YOUR spoon to eat with, not the serving spoon!) of the “other” less-healthy sides won’t derail you too much. You get to taste it but won’t suffer after. Enjoy!

I’m honestly struggling with this certification, guys. It’s hard, mentally-intense and I have to spend a lot of hours in front of a computer that I don’t like.

I’m studying things that make me think, “I’m not trying to be a doctor or a psychologist!” This is so next-level.

But I know I will do it, I’ve done everything I needed to maintain my certifications for 20 years.

Please know not all Personal Trainers are the same. In my industry you honestly get what you pay for. Check out their education and how many extra certs they have.

Halloween night I always make some homemade chili, soup, etc. Tonight was chicken tortilla soup (minus the tortillas unless you want to add them on top).

This is loaded with vegetables: onion, yellow bell pepper, poblanos from my garden, fresh garlic, zucchini, tomatoes, garlic. I use three different beans because beans are LIFE and filled with so many good things for your body and health.

I always offer fresh cilantro, chopped avocado and freshly grated cheese to top. If you want a handful of crushed tortilla chips as well, sure.

I hear sooo many clients talk about a weight goal. The doctor tells you your BMI is obese or close to it. So you need to lose X amount of pounds to be heathy.

Here I am at borderline “overweight” and a size 2-4, maybe a 6 in some clothing. I have been borderline obese in my adult years as well. The BMI chart wants me to lose 10-20 pounds to be ‘healthy’.

Body composition is most important. We all need to focus on building and maintaining muscle as we age, and eating properly. I can help with both!

I currently train clients only in my home gym in Cu***ng, GA, where I also have a swimming pool in my backyard for water workouts.

I am thrilled to have two wonderful trainers working alongside me, Veronica Toolan (NASM-certified Personal Trainer and AFAA Group Exercise Certified) and Laura Johnson (ACE-certified Personal Trainer). I have mentored and continue to work closely with both trainers, so I can safely and confidently refer business to these fine women knowing clients will be the best hands possible.
