💛 Hepatitis B at Birth. What Parents Should Know

There has been a lot of talk about vaccine recommendations lately, so here is the simple, fact checked truth.

The hepatitis B vaccine given in the first 24 hours of life is one of the strongest tools we have to protect newborns. Babies who catch hepatitis B early in life have a very high risk of becoming chronically infected, which can lead to serious liver disease later on.

🌟 The American Academy of Pediatrics continues to support the birth dose because:
✔ It protects babies right away before any unknown exposures
✔ Many adults with hepatitis B do not know they have it
✔ Early infection leads to chronic disease about 90 percent of the time
✔ Universal birth vaccination has helped drive infant hepatitis B infections to extremely low levels

Simply put, the birth dose acts like a safety net that follows your baby from the very start.

🎄✨ Helping Kids Stay Humble During the Holidays ✨🎄
The holidays are magical, but kids sometimes slide into “professional gift receiver” mode. Here are a few gentle ways to help them stay grounded, grateful, and kind.

🎁 1. Make gratitude the star of the show
Before opening presents, have everyone share one thing they loved about the past year. Kids usually surprise you with something sweet and slightly chaotic.

💬 Kid: “I’m thankful for my dog.”
Dog: insert confused tail wag

🎅 2. Let them help give, not just receive
Have your child choose a toy to donate or help pick a neighbor to surprise with cookies. It teaches generosity and gives them that warm fuzzy feeling that no toy can match.

🧁 3. Focus on presence over presents
Family board games, decorating cookies, watching holiday movies in pajamas. Kids remember these moments way more than which version of the toy they got.

📚 4. Talk about kindness like it is a superpower
Ask your child how they can use their “kindness power” this week. They love missions. Bonus points if they whisper “challenge accepted.”

✨ 5. Model it yourself
Kids watch everything. They may not hear you ask three times to put on socks, but they absolutely notice how you treat others.

💖 The holidays are a beautiful chance to grow tiny humans who are grateful, thoughtful, and generous.

🍪 Dr. Lavania's Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies Ever

If you are craving the perfect chocolate chip cookie, this recipe has my whole heart. Soft, chewy, a little crispy on the edges, and packed with melty chocolate. The secret is brown butter, and wow… it makes all the difference. 😍

I’m sharing a quick breakdown here, but the full recipe belongs to and is beautifully written by on scientificallysweet.com. Go show them love for creating such magic.

🥄 What You Need

• Butter, browned on the stove
• Brown sugar and granulated sugar
• Eggs
• Vanilla
• Flour
• Baking soda
• Salt
• Lots of chocolate chips or chopped chocolate

🍪 How to Make Them

Brown the butter until it smells nutty and delicious. Let it cool slightly.

Whisk in the sugars until smooth.

Add the eggs and vanilla.

Stir in the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.

Mix in a generous amount of chocolate.

Scoop, chill briefly if you want thicker cookies, then bake until golden on the edges but soft in the middle.

Your kitchen will smell incredible and you will want to hide at least two cookies in a secret spot for yourself. No judgment. 💛

💉 Why the DTaP Vaccine Matters More Than Ever

There has been a heartbreaking rise in pertussis (whooping cough) cases across the country, and several infants have died from this preventable illness. Babies are especially vulnerable because they are too young to be fully protected, which makes vaccination incredibly important. ❤️

Pertussis spreads easily and causes severe coughing fits. Many infants turn blue, struggle to breathe, and one out of three ends up in the hospital. Complications can include pneumonia, seizures, and life-threatening respiratory distress. The cough can last up to 100 days, sometimes so severe that it can cause a rib fracture.

Here is what every family should know:

👶 **Infants need the DTaP vaccine on time** at 2, 4, and 6 months, then again at 15 to 18 months and 4 to 6 years.
🤰 **Pregnant parents need a Tdap booster during the third trimester** to pass protective antibodies to their baby.
👨‍👩‍👧 **Anyone who spends time around infants should be up to date** on their pertussis booster.
💉 **The DTaP vaccine is safe and very effective.** It protects your child and helps protect the entire community.

Whooping cough is preventable. Vaccination saves lives. If you have questions or need to schedule your child’s vaccines, we are here to help your family stay protected. 💚

🤔 Myth or Fact: You should stop breastfeeding when you have a cold?”🌸

❌ False! You can keep breastfeeding! Your body makes antibodies that help protect your baby.

When you’re sick, your immune system creates antibodies that pass through your milk to your baby, giving them extra protection. Just remember to rest, hydrate, and wash your hands often.

If you’re unsure or feeling really unwell, check in with your pediatrician or lactation consultant for guidance.

Thanksgiving Food Safety for Little Helpers! 🦃👩‍🍳
Cooking together is a wonderful family tradition, just keep it safe and kid-friendly:

🧼 Wash hands often: Before handling food, after touching raw meat, and before eating!
🔥 Keep little hands safe: Turn pot handles inward and keep hot dishes away from counter edges.
🥧 No raw dough: Remind kids not to taste batter made with raw eggs or flour.
🥶 Store leftovers quickly: Refrigerate within 2 hours to prevent bacteria growth.
🍗 Check temperatures: Turkey should reach 165°F in the thickest part (use a food thermometer!).

From our One Family Pediatrics family to yours, have a happy, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving! 🍂
