Thriving From the Inside Out – Thursday ✨

I want to pause today and say thank you.

Hearing how Remodel Your Brain: Thriving From the Inside Out has impacted your lives truly brightens my day. Reading your messages about the changes you’ve made—how you move, how you nourish yourself, how you speak to yourself, and how you care for your nervous system—means more to me than I can put into words.

This book was born from my deepest passions: blending mental health, neuroscience, movement, and lifestyle medicine into one integrated approach to well-being. Seeing you take that information and turn it into real-life change reminds me why I do this work.

I especially love hearing how many of you are engaging with the end-of-chapter Thrive Challenges—choosing just 3 small but meaningful tips and tools to try for a month. Those small, intentional shifts truly add up to big transformations.

Thank you for reading.
Thank you for trusting the process.
Thank you for thriving—from the inside out. 💫

Walking Therapy Tuesday 🌿

The space we choose for therapy—and the calmness of my own nervous system—truly helps people heal.

Nature isn’t just a backdrop; it’s a co-therapist. A gentle walk outdoors naturally nudges us into that “rest and restore” mode, soothing the nervous system and inviting a sense of safety.

That’s why I always take a breather between sessions. By grounding myself in nature and steadying my own breath, I can show up more present and centered for each client. When I’m regulated, it’s easier for them to find their own calm.

In the end, healing happens best when we’re in a peaceful environment, with a peaceful guide. 🌿

Foodie Friday 🥗✨ | The 2026 Food Pyramid

The new 2026 Food Pyramid is a big improvement—and I’m excited about it.

✔️ Protein finally gets the respect it deserves
✔️ Healthy fats matter for brain & hormones
✔️ Vegetables are the true foundation

This flipped pyramid actually matches how our brains and bodies function, especially as we age, stay active, and manage stress.

But here’s the catch:
If you don’t know your blood work, DNA, or genetic risk factors, this “better” pyramid can still be problematic.

The same foods can:
• improve numbers for one person
• worsen LDL, blood sugar, or inflammation for another

Your genes, gut microbes, and nervous system change how food affects you.

That’s why nutrition can’t be one-size-fits-all.

Knowing your:
• labs (cholesterol, glucose, inflammation)
• genetic risk factors
• gut and body reactions to foods

…isn’t optional—it’s essential.

Food is information.
Your body is the feedback system.

Welcome to Foodie Friday 💛
Where nutrition meets neuroscience, data, and self-trust.

Workout Wednesday 🏃‍♀️🏋️‍♀️

Movement that lights your soul is the movement that lasts.

I don’t exercise to lose weight or chase muscle—though I do train to keep my hard-earned 103 lbs of muscle. What really drives me is how movement makes me feel.

Running muddy trails in misty rain lights me up.
Lifting weights brings a calm, zen focus as I dial in my form.

I’ve loved this stuff since I was young—but I haven’t always been consistent. Teaching group exercise for 45 years taught me something important: some of the best workouts are the ones I didn’t want to do. I don’t always feel motivated or pumped. Still, I rarely miss a workout—no matter how I feel.

Why?
Because I love how my brain works afterward.
I love how it helps me sleep.
I love how it gives me space to process stress.
And I love how it leaves me kinder to the people who matter most.

Motivation comes and goes.
How you feel after moving—that’s what keeps you coming back.

As we head into 2026, I’ve been reflecting on how we end our days—not just how we power through them. 🌙

This week’s newsletter explores simple end-of-day rituals that help calm the nervous system, reduce sleep procrastination, and invite deeper rest.

Sometimes the most powerful reset begins with a gentle landing💛

Best Self Post Holiday Reflection

Sometimes disappointment isn’t about the gift at all.
It’s about expecting others to sense an unspoken need and feeling let down when they don’t.

For many people, this pattern traces back to early experiences of not being fully seen or heard.
Where blending in felt safer than expressing needs.
Where self-abandonment became a form of protection.

At Best Self, we gently process this trauma so you’re no longer waiting to be understood without speaking.
So you can stay present, connected, and receptive.

The greatest gift isn’t under the tree.
It’s the ability to receive connection, nature, family, traditions, and moments as they are.

Yes, the holidays can bring a natural letdown or recovery period.
They’re also an invitation to rest, reflect, and choose how you want to show up differently in the new year.

As the holidays arrive, I’m practicing leaning in (but not hosting) rather than pushing through.

Leaning into the warmth of the fire.
The comfort of familiar voices.
The quiet magic in the smell of rain or the first hint of snow.

These small, sensory moments nourish the nervous system and remind us that presence itself is healing.

If it feels right for you, you might gently invite your ancestors—those who came before you—into the season.
Light a candle.
Share a story.
Cook a recipe they loved.
Or simply pause and acknowledge the legacy that lives on through you.

The holidays can be deeply meaningful and bittersweet.
For some of us, grief sits right alongside gratitude.

I lost my father a few days before Christmas many years ago, and I still feel that tender echo each season especially after losing my Mr. Noodle.

Over time, I’ve learned that honoring love doesn’t mean avoiding joy instead it means letting both coexist.

Wherever you find yourself this holiday:
• It’s okay to feel it all
• It’s okay to slow down
• It’s okay to honor your story

May you lean into what feels steady, warm, and nourishing and let that be enough.

✨ Thriving from the inside out guide to be the Best Version of yourself this holiday season.

🌿 Food & Mood Friday: Nature as Nourishment 🌿

On this Food & Mood Friday, let’s remember that nourishment comes not just from the foods we choose, but also from the natural world around us. When we step outside and breathe in that fresh, rain-washed air, or take in the scent of green ferns and the earthy richness of the forest floor, we’re feeding our souls just as much as we’re feeding our bodies. Each moment of connection with nature is a gentle reminder that we can restore, balance, and thrive from the inside out.

Happy Friday, and may your food and your surroundings nourish you deeply today!

Be Your Best Self in 2019!

My mission is to use psychotherapy, coaching, and a healthy lifestyle to create better thoughts, behaviors, relationships and moods. After doing a complete intake, clients gain insight, understanding, and tools and help people be their Best Self Today.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who provides therapy while walking and talking on nature trails. Clients who are unable to meet in person can do a phone session instead. Walking Psychotherapy lifts your mood so that you feel better about yourself and your life, and helps you get unstuck and change self-sabotaging behaviors. You will be listened to with compassion, gain insight and tools, and move through your concerns with support. You will do home practice of the behaviors, thoughts, and skills that we are focusing on to streamline your results. You will be less overwhelmed, more on target, and live your best life. I am also a wellness and ADD coach. You will create specific, measurable goals for yourself in the area that you would like to improve while walking on a peaceful nature trail. You will be asked pin-pointed questions to help you gain clarity about what you want to accomplish. We will create specific plans to meet your goals, and we will track your progress daily. Do you need a little more consistent motivation and accountability? Sign up for my accountablity app, online trainings, or a personalized session. I invite you to view my website and contact me for a free consultation. Every step you take builds a better you!
