Meet Alexis!
Alexis became part of the Graves Counseling and Wellbeing Group in August of last year. I can’t imagine what we ever did without her!
“ I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist who has worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families in the mental health field since 1994. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Cameron University in Lawton in 1994 and then began working for a Department of Mental Health facility in the children’s services division right after graduation. While working in mental health, I pursued and earned my Master of Science degree in Behavioral Health Psychology from Cameron University in 1998. I became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2001, continuing to work in the Lawton/Ft. Sill community in mental health. My time in Lawton allowed me to work closely with the military and civilian populations, having the honor of treating many children, adolescents, and families with their struggles. I served on the Child Abuse Prevention Task Force there and worked with countless children in foster care who touched my heart. I was able to become a Registered Play Therapist in 2006, specializing in work with children 2 years old and up who struggle with behavioral and mental health issues. For those of you unfamiliar with play therapy, it is type of treatment that is developmentally appropriate for children who may not have the language to express their thoughts, feelings, and struggles. A trained play therapist is able to utilize therapeutic methods of play to help children develop a sense of improved self, the ability to express their emotions, work through problems independently and creatively, develop a sense of understanding of themselves and others, and often resolve traumatic experiences. I am passionate about working with children and utilizing play as it is truly their language. In 2012, I chose to follow my two children to Stillwater as I fell in love with the Stillwater and Payne County areas while both of them attended OSU. As a mental health therapist in Stillwater, I worked with adults, children, and adolescents and had the opportunity to supervise staff and interns at a non-profit agency up until August 2023 when I joined Graves Counseling and Wellbeing Group. I frequently referred clients to Graves and had heard wonderful things about Nichole Graves and her team. It was therefore a natural interest in Graves Counseling that led me to join this wonderful team of professionals where I hope to continue to utilize my skills to serve the Cushing and surrounding areas.”
