Are stairs a challenge for you?

If you step on one stair at a time with both feet before moving to the next one, ankle mobility might be an issue.

Here are two exercises to help improve your ankle mobility.

Stand with one foot forward about four inches from the wall and the other foot behind. Lunge forward, moving your front knee toward the wall without lifting your heel off the floor.

Next, stand sideways with one foot on a stair or raised surface. Keep your other leg straight and slowly lower, then raise that foot by flexing the ankle that’s on the raised surface. Doing these two exercises consistently will improve your range of motion for your ankle as you move forward through your day.

Have difficulty looking over your shoulder when you’re driving?

You’re may be dealing with neck mobility limitations, and these two simple stretches can help.

First, wrap a towel around your shoulders. Let the left side hang down, and hold it with your right hand. With your left hand, pull the towel up and around the lower half of your face. Gently pull the towel towards your left shoulder.

For the second stretch, sit in a chair with your hands resting on one corner of the chair back, hips forward. Keep your hips pointing forward and turn your head and torso toward your hands.

Repeat both stretches in the other direction, and they’ll help you move better behind the wheel.

Struggling with mobility?

Mobility is “the ability to move freely and easily.”

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to share how to recognize if you’re dealing with a mobility issue and offer suggestions to help.

To start off, here are some signs you might be dealing with shoulder mobility issues: Difficulty putting on a coat, reaching into high cupboards, or tucking your shirt into your pants.

Swipe through for a few stretches you can do to help tight or stiff shoulders.

What if there was a simple, non-invasive way to support your body’s natural healing process?

SoftWave therapy is one option I use to help patients reduce pain and support recovery. By promoting blood flow, decreasing inflammation, and stimulating tissue repair at the source, it can be a helpful addition to your care plan. Treatments require no downtime.

If you’ve been dealing with ongoing pain or slower recovery and haven’t found the right solution, SoftWave may be worth exploring. My goal is to help you move through your day with greater comfort and confidence.

This is me, Katie, hiking a trail down into the Grand Canyon. This trip (Sedona, AZ + Grand Canyon) has been on my list since I turned 50 last year, and I finally made it happen!

There’s a narrative around aging that suggests we should start doing less the older we get. I’d like to challenge that.

Getting older is actually an invitation to become more intentional about how we move, what we eat, how we rest, and how we invest in our wellbeing.

When you prioritize your health, adventure stays accessible. Here are a few things that have helped me stay healthy:

* Protecting my sleep
* Staying active even on low-motivation days
* Fueling my body with food that supports energy
* Making movement a lifestyle, not an event

Sedona reminded me that the world still has so much to offer. The goal isn’t to slow down. It’s to maintain wellness so you can keep saying yes to new adventures.

This is our patient, Eileen. We’ve been helping her gain strength and stability in her hip to address her Trendelenburg Gait. It’s an abnormal walking pattern where the torso leans sharply to one side, caused by weakness in the hip abductor muscles.

Hip/trunk strengthening exercises, dynamic balance, gait activities, stretching, manual therapy, and Softwave have made a big difference in Eileen’s stride. She’s also been extremely consistent with the home exercises we designed for her, and her long-term commitment to physical therapy has really paid off!

If you’re dealing with stability or mobility issues, we’re here to help you move forward.

He is built for greatness, disciplined for recovery, and strong because he takes care of his body.

What do you do when you excel in every sport? You go to college to become a decathlete.

It’s considered one of the most demanding competitions in athletics because it tests speed, strength, endurance, agility, and technique.

Hayden does just that at Lake Erie College. He’s required to do more than the average athlete, so an injury to his hamstring was something to take seriously.

In addition to increasing his flexibility, he needed to work on explosive strength. We used manual techniques, Softwave, and red light to help him recover more quickly and get back to competition.

As if being a student athlete with a major in education isn’t enough, he also takes flight lessons and is working on his pilot’s license.

Taking care of your body is the key to success, and Kevin knows how important it is to stay limber and keep ahead of his injuries.

During his basketball career, he has gone above and beyond self-care, coming to us for regular stretch sessions. He also betters himself by practicing yoga and getting therapeutic massages.

Throughout his basketball career, he has had minor injuries but quickly comes in for treatments to keep any acute injury from becoming chronic.

Kevin plays for Mount Union and is studying business management.
