I was invited by my neurosurgeon, Dr. Shakir to speak at the OU stroke symposium on Friday evening’s networking reception. Saturday is for the nerds. I’ll be sharing my story of my stroke and recovery tonight. It will be my last official appearance as Ms. Wheelchair Oklahoma USA. Everyone is invited!

At nationals, I spoke with a judge who manages a large grocery store about how retailers can support accessibility. He offered great tips, and I shared ideas like closer cart returns and keeping spaces clear—small changes that make a big difference!

The striped area isn’t extra parking—it’s access space for wheelchairs, ramps, and mobility needs. Blocking it limits someone’s independence. Let’s do better and keep these spaces clear for those who truly need them.

Ms. Wheelchair USA would not be what it is without the countless volunteers who make it happen. These three incredible humans volunteer their time to be judges. All three of them spoke life and confidence into me and gave me encouragement to keep going. Hopefully, I will see them again next year. Even though they are a little judgmental (pun intended), I enjoyed spending time with them.

Now that I’m home and rested from the week of activities surrounding the national pageant, I’m back on duty raising awareness for my platform! This person used the accessible space for over two hours to visit with their friends, causing wheelchair users to navigate hazardous curbs to gain access to the restaurant. At least there is a pretty sunset in the picture.

I’ve been home for a few days processing my week at the national pageant.

First, congratulations to Amy Simonson on winning the pageant. Second, to the other finalists, you all encourage me, and I am grateful to call you friends. I had the best week in Ohio. Thank you to all of the volunteers who make this pageant possible. Ms. Wheelchair USA will always hold a special place in my heart. I hope to see everyone again in the future! Until then, don’t forget to respect the lines ♿
