Our Mardi Gras party was full of festive fun! We enjoyed lively Mardi Gras music, danced in our chairs, and indulged in a delicious spread of treats, including dirty rice, olive dip with crackers, French toast beignets, and more. Of course, we topped it all off with Southern sweet tea and lemonade. We also read fun facts about Mardi Gras and learned a bit about its history, making the celebration both enjoyable and educational. 💜💚💛

Our residents proudly represented different countries as they competed in our own Winter Olympic events, including Speed Skating and a Snowball Toss into the Olympic rings. To make it official, gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded to our winners. The fun and friendly competition truly brought the Olympic spirit to life! 🥇🥈🥉

Last week, our residents began preparing for our very own Winter Olympics! Everyone had fun creating flags for the countries they’ll be representing, and the excitement is just getting started. Stay tuned for more Olympic fun on the way!

Yesterday, our residents celebrated the Super Bowl with a party! We played Super Bowl trivia and talked about our favorite teams as we enjoyed ham salad and chicken salad finger sandwiches, a homemade football shaped cheese ball, crackers and cheese, soft pretzel bites, and more. It was a wonderful day full of football, laughter, and treats. 🏈

Feeling the love during Valentine’s month! ❤🎈

Altercare is incredibly grateful to be part of the Blessing Balloon Project, a beautiful community collaboration led by Lift Up Balloons and Designs in partnership with Perry Christian Church.

Thanks to the generosity of Sarah with Lift Up Balloons & Designs, Perry Christian Church, Relia Ride, R&R Coffee Bar, Innis Maggiore, and 100+ amazing volunteers, all six Altercare facilities, among more than 20 senior care centers across Stark County, received a joyful Valentine’s surprise this week.

Our residents were absolutely over the moon receiving their balloon blessings, and their smiles said it all.

Thank you to everyone who helped turn a simple gesture into something truly unforgettable. Community kindness like this makes all the difference.

What an amazing testimony from a recent respite care resident! We’re so thankful for our team for stepping up and providing comfort, care, and support during the winter weather. 💙

During last week’s frigid temperatures, a patient found herself without heat while waiting on a delayed furnace repair. What could have been a dangerous situation quickly became a powerful example of care in action.

Thanks to the collaboration between Genesis Hospital, local emergency services, and our own Altercare team, she was safely transported and welcomed into Altercare Somerset for a respite stay, ensuring warmth, comfort, and peace of mind during the coldest days.

A special thank you to Anna and Lynsey, whose dedication and problem-solving truly went above and beyond. Stories like this remind us that it’s not just about healthcare, it’s about humanity.

This week, we celebrate National Activity Professionals Week! We’re proud to recognize the dedicated team members whose creativity, commitment, and passion bring joy, connection, and meaningful experiences to our residents every single day.

Meet Alyssa McDaniel, our Activities Coordinator. Alyssa has been a part of our Altercare team for a year and a half. Her favorite part of her job is knowing that she’s making a difference with each resident every day. Her biggest motivation to come to work every day is simple… her residents that have become family to her. Alyssa’s professional goals are to grow with Altercare and further her education. When asked who inspires her, Alyssa responded, “My wife and daughter inspire me. They both make me want to do great things because they always believe in me.”

Alyssa and her wife, Stefanie, have a daughter, Teighan, four cats, and a dog! In her free time, she likes to have game nights with her family and friends, do puzzles with her wife, and go shopping. A fun fact about Alyssa is that she has lived in three different states: Ohio, Florida, and Arkansas.

“I choose Altercare because my family was a resident here in 2019. Everyone took great care of him, so I knew it was a great place to work.”

Meet Kris Yost, our Activities Coordinator. Kris has been a part of our Altercare team for 14 years! When asked what she enjoys most about her job, Kris stated, “What I enjoy most about my job is when a resident realizes that life doesn’t have to end when you come to a nursing home. Yes, it may mean changes to everyday life but sometimes it provides opportunities to learn something new, make new friends, or share your experiences with others.” Kris’ motivation to come to work every day is getting to meet new residents and make them feel comfortable in their new home.

Kris and her husband have four children, one dog, and two cats. In her free time, she likes to garden and spend time with her friends and family.

“I choose Altercare because they do the best for every resident and employee.”
