Complex Case Alert! 🚨👇🏼
This incredible patient received a life-saving liver transplant many years ago and subsequently went on to lose over 100 pounds, embracing a healthier, more active life. Despite her success, she remained frustrated by significant abdominal skin excess and extensive scarring from prior surgery. Her case was especially complex due to several factors:
1) a transplant history requiring immunosuppressive medications
2) an elevated BMI of 37 despite major weight loss
3) significant prior abdominal scarring and
4) associated abdominal wall hernias.
To address these challenges, I performed a high-BMI extended tummy tuck with corsetplasty (aka fleur-de-lis), including removal of thick transplant scars and repair of the abdominal wall hernias. More than 10 pounds of tissue were removed. I’m pleased to share her healed results just 7 weeks after surgery – without any complications after surgery.
Cases like this require careful planning, experience, and respect for the patient’s medical history and anatomy. With more than 20 years in practice, we’re able to safely navigate complex situations where the right expertise truly matters. As she shared with me: her transplant surgery saved her life—our surgery helps her live her best life.✨
