Our thoughts and prayers are with the Central Texas communities impacted by the recent heavy rain that led to catastrophic flooding and devastation. We hold in our hearts those who have lost loved ones, those displaced from their homes and the heroes who have saved lives. We are heartbroken for all those impacted across the Texas Hill Country, a region where we are honored to care for patients.

You have the power to significantly boost your health and well-being, leading to a higher quality of life. The secret? A consistent preventative care regimen.

The key to preventative healthcare for men is establishing partnership rather than hierarchy, according to Donald R. Niño, MD from HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast . "The model that I use is education,” he explains. “If you can come in and I can see what's going on, I can explain to you what it is you have, why you have it, and what can we do about it. And then we become partners in the treatment. And once the guys are in on it, they're going to do it."

HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest joined Harris County Public Health (HCPH) to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of their new RISE Empowerment Center, which will offer support to those affected by violence including trauma recovery, youth services and job assistance.

Trauma medical director, Shiree Berry, M.D., FACS, discussed how HCA Houston Northwest is the first hospital in Houston to partner with HCPH on the Violence Interruption Program, which uses hospital-based intervention to identify individuals at risk for violence, often those injured in shootings or other violent acts and connects them with resources. We’re proud to be a part of this collaborative approach to reduce violence in our city. Learn more about Relentless Interrupters Serving Everyone (RISE): https://bit.ly/401J8xS

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a condition in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the arms or legs. It’s easy to mistake PAD for other conditions like hip arthritis or spinal stenosis, which means often goes undiagnosed. Many people with PAD don’t experience symptoms at all. That’s why awareness of risk factors – such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and smoking – is crucial for screening.

Understanding the early warning signs is the first step toward timely intervention and better quality of life. In most cases, lifestyle changes, exercise and medications are enough to slow the progression or even reverse the symptoms of PAD, so talk to your doctor if you think you may be at risk. Meet Kenny. He’s one of millions of Americans who are about to face a major increase in health insurance costs – and most don’t even know it yet.

Enhanced Premium Tax Credits (EPTCs) are currently helping 24 million people – including our patients – afford high-quality healthcare coverage through the insurance Marketplace (https://bit.ly/3TlpLfn). These tax credits are applied directly to people’s premiums, keeping coverage affordable and making healthcare more accessible. But unless Congress acts soon, these tax credits will expire at the end of 2025.

“When you get sick and you’re not rich, health insurance is absolutely essential. It doesn’t just make life easier, it makes life possible,” said Kenny. “Losing the healthcare tax credit would mean my monthly costs would go through the roof, and I wouldn’t be able to afford my treatments. I need Congress to extend the healthcare tax credit and give people in towns like mine a fighting chance.”

Without EPTCs, health insurance costs will skyrocket. Families may be forced to make heartbreaking choices – between keeping their health coverage or paying for food, rent and childcare. Learn how you can help protect access to care at https://bit.ly/3I8KvEU

We are proud to be a part of initiatives empowering students with access to the resources, guidance and opportunities to pursue meaningful careers in healthcare. 🏥

We’re proud to announce that the HCA Healthcare Foundation, through its Healthier Tomorrow Fund, will enhance its work with Educate Texas, an initiative of Communities Foundation of Texas, through a new $1 million grant.

This donation builds upon the collaboration resulting from the Foundation’s $1.35 million grant to the organization in 2022 and will continue to focus on increasing student access to programs that enable healthcare careers, including high schools in Texas that offer Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) healthcare career tracks. Through this first grant, Educate Texas supported the expansion of healthcare career pathways across P-TECH campuses - from 20 to 104 schools - enrolling nearly 10,000 high school students in programs designed to prepare them for in-demand healthcare careers.

“We are thrilled to enhance our work with Educate Texas to help empower students with access to the resources, guidance and opportunities to pursue meaningful careers in healthcare,” said Joanne Pulles, vice president of community engagement at HCA Healthcare and president of the HCA Healthcare Foundation. “This ongoing support reflects our commitment to helping develop the healthcare leaders of tomorrow.”

This initiative will build on the success of the past three years and will focus on growing the number of students earning healthcare degrees and credentials and increasing the number of hospital employers, including HCA Healthcare-affiliated hospitals, engaged in meaningful partnerships with school districts across North Texas, Austin, San Antonio and the Houston Gulf Coast region.
