We are thrilled to announce our partnership as co-presenters with OBFF for the film SEMRET at this year's Ottawa Black Film Festival; and we have tickets for you.

Synopsis: Semret lives a modest and quite isolated life in Zurich with her teenage daughter Joe. She works at a hospital and is applying to a midwife training program. When Joe starts to ask about her own roots from Eritrea, Semret can no longer repress her past and has to confront her traumas. With the help of Yemane, a new hospital employee that is also an Eritrean refugee, she is finally able to face the tragic memories of her escape.

We cordially invite you to join us on March 23rd at 9 pm to witness the poignant evolution of this narrative.

We are giving away 2 pairs of tickets to 2 lucky individuals.

In the challenging year of 2020, the inception of the ACB Counselling program stemmed from a heartfelt interaction with a university student struggling to navigate the events of that year, notably grappling with the aftermath of George Floyd's tragic murder. Faced with the absence of culturally sensitive services, we were moved to take action and fill this gap.

Following securing funding from the Red Cross and the Canadian government, we launched the counselling program. Its remarkable success stands as a testament to the evolving narrative and dialogue surrounding mental health within the black community. This achievement underscores the vital need for continuous availability of such services tailored for BIPOC communities.

Au cours de l’année 2020, le lancement du programme de thérapie ACN est né d’une interaction sincère avec un étudiant universitaire luttant pour naviguer les événements de cette année, notamment la suite de l'assassinat tragique de George Floyd. Face à l’absence de services culturellement adaptés, nous avons décidé d'agir et de combler cette lacune.

Après avoir obtenu du financement de la Croix-Rouge et du gouvernement canadien, nous avons lancé le programme de thérapie. Son succès remarquable témoigne de l’évolution du discours et du dialogue entourant la santé mentale au sein de la communauté noire. Cette réalisation souligne le besoin vital d’une disponibilité continue de ces services adaptés aux communautés PANDC.

Striving to raise awareness about mental health stigma within the black community, the "Wise Up to Rise Up" campaign launched on November 30th, 2019. This empowering initiative prominently showcased black actors and esteemed community leaders. It was paramount for us to ensure that the black community could wholeheartedly relate to the campaign's message. Leveraging the impact of our collaborators, our goal was to empower individuals to prioritize mental health and dismantle societal stigmas along the way.

We were lucky to team up with some amazing individuals for this campaign. We wish to express our deepest gratitude once again to the following remarkable contributors.
