We extend our warmest congratulations to Mariela Cruz, CNA, the well-deserved recipient of the Quest for Excellence award for 2025! Mariela's journey with us began when she successfully completed our comprehensive nurse aide training program here at Willowdale in August of 2023. Demonstrating her dedication and commitment, Mariela then went on to obtain her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in December of 2023. Since that time, she has proven to be an invaluable asset to our team, consistently exceeding expectations and enriching the lives of those around her.
Originally from Ferdinand, Indiana, Mariela is a proud 2022 graduate of Forrest Park High School. She comes from a close-knit family, being the second oldest of five siblings, and cherishes the bonds she shares with them. Her beloved dog, Benja, is also a significant part of her life, bringing joy and companionship. Her colleagues consistently praise her, often describing her as "one of a kind." One coworker particularly noted, "No matter what the day brings, Mariela is always positive and eager to make sure the job gets done," which truly encapsulates her work ethic.
Mariela has expressed that her favorite aspect of working at Willowdale is the opportunity to care for the residents, who she considers to be her extended family. She finds great fulfillment in knowing that she makes a tangible difference in their lives. Looking ahead, Mariela aspires to become a preceptor and eventually plans to further her education by pursuing her Registered Nurse (RN) degree. In her free time, Mariela enjoys shopping and cherishing moments with her family. She was nominated for the Quest for Excellence award due to her compassionate, individualized care and her consistently positive and proactive attitude. Willowdale Village is incredibly fortunate to have Mariela as a member of our team, and we eagerly anticipate all the future accomplishments she will achieve.
