Since today is the last day of Women's History Month. I'll like to close out with celebrating one of my Foot and Ankle colleagues Dr. Katherine Raspovic.
In celebration of Women's History Month, I'd like to acknowledge Sharon Walton, M.D. She was inspired to pursue medicine by her gymnastics team doctor — an African American female from the same neighborhood. At UTSW she paved her own path and hopes to inspire others the way she was.

I will like to recognize Dr. Inez Beverly Prosser, the first African American woman to receive a PhD in psychology. Dr. Prosser was one of eleven children born in San Marcos, Texas. She began her college education at Prairie View A&M University, and later received a two year certificate and began her teaching career in Austin, Tx, in 1913. Initially, she taught at a black elementary school and later she transitioned to teaching high school students. Dr. Prosser later graduated with her bachelors from Samuel Huston College in 1926. Due to segregation Dr. Prosser left Texas and completed her master's degree at University of Colorado and completed her doctorate in psychology at the University of Cincinnati in 1933. With many years of working with black school children, it highlighted the many ways in which racism negatively affected student's mental health and self-worth.
Heart Disease is the leading cause of death among Americans, especially women. Please join me today in wearing red and spreading awareness and showing support.
Today, we honor and celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Let's use this day to reflect on his legacy of social justice and racial equality, and continue to work towards his mission.
