You can take me out of Dallaspuram but you cannot take Dallaspuram out of me 😂
You know I’m not joking when I say Dallas exemplifies Telugu/south thanam more than some cities in India itself! It was a weird experience walking thru the Netherlands and seeing the lack of brown diversity - and this obviously translates over to the availability of (southern) Indian food as well!
We were visiting Utrecht (I loved this place so much more than Rotterdam/Amsterdam for its more local vibe!) and my friends had to take me to !!
I’m really glad we went because they had the best kara Masala dosa (it was so good, Im usually not a Masala dosa person) and amazing Chole bature - the chole was just WOW. - they charged us for tap water too so that was ehh - but it was a great stop nonetheless!

Here's a challenge for ya'll. Guess what's on my plate.
What bread is it, what do you think is inside, what sauce, and whatever else you see. Stove cooked or oven baked, (or grilled 🤪) and I'll share the soon!
Yesterday was a - omg I have a lot of ingredients left in the house, some of which came from and I cannot throw them away, kind of a day so I quickly put together something that came to mind. I also experimented with some because a lack of 1 ingredient - so I'm not in a position to share recipes but I just thought it would be a fun post with pretty pictures (i know they're not the best, but don't insult food 😤😛)!

I know I already spammed you guys with my stories of these delectable brownies but I had to make a post - for my own sanity!!
These are the famous brownies and this is my second time making them and they DO NOT disappoint. If you want the BEST (and by best I mean, crinkly top, fudgy, with bits of crunch) then you really need not look any further. Well of course, a faint memory of the Triple Chocolate Brownie Mix by reckons to be a close match - but nothing beats made from scratch.
I followed the recipe almost as is - which meant I got the dark brown sugar (though we had light brown at home), got the dutch processed cocoa powder, didn't substitute the eggs or anything. BUT I used a shot of espresso instead of espresso powder. Also, I would reduce the sugar by maybe 1/4 cup to reduce the intense sweetness, but I'm also afraid to mess up baking proportions lol!
Also, if you didn't follow my stories, if you want to double the recipe (it's a pretty large batch), don't do it all at once. And definitely use 2 trays. The weight of the batter all in one, doesn't support even cooking and the top spilled over when I tried to whack the tray on the counter.
All in all, I would have loved if there was some healthy twist to this - because I've been gobbling them down non stop!

When I started this page, all I wanted to do was post pictures of food that I took. Not even fancy pictures but anything that I felt I did a good job with and wanted to share with my friends. I had like 13 followers when I first started. I didn't even know about Insta food blogging and didn't think any strangers would follow me.
Obviously, I was thrilled when random people found interest in what I was posting and started following me. But this triggered a sense of self-competition, and that wasn't a bad thing. I wanted to make better recipes, or take better pictures, or add fancy text, or make good videos, make reels, follow random pointless trends, to a point where opening Instagram felt like a chore (at least it kept me away from aimless scrolling?) but I didn't want to feel that way! Cooking is honestly one of the very few things I pride myself in and I just wanted to document my work and feel good!
Not gonna lie, when I film with one hand and cook with one hand, and spend time on this stupid platform using their glitchy tool to edit on text and find 'trendy music', find hashtags ( ?) and finally post the damn thing and get like less than 50 likes - it kind hurts. but I'm learning to not give two sh*ts because who cares? Why should we always try to monetize our hobbies? Yall - bottom line: don't follow into the corporate America's trap. Do what you like because you like what you do - and even if you don't make money or gain fame or whatever, you'll still have your moment of pride and happiness :) and money will come and fame will come when they are meant to. A HUGE shoutout to everyone on this platform that consistently like my stuff and react to my statuses and check in with me. God bless.

Clearly I'm not a super adventurous person - I've lived in Dallas for nearly 7 years now and I have not once been to the Bishop Arts District. Last weekend we went to Âme (pronounced Ah-mmh), a French inspired Indian fusion spot, and more than the restaurant (though it was nice af!) we were pleasantly surprised by the vibe of the colorful neighborhood!
Âme: 4/5 - a great spot to celebrate special moments, to splurge for a good dining experience, and is veg/vegan friendly! The ambience and food definitely reminded me of Rooh in Downtown chicago - but I must say that it was a tad bit pricier.
Order:
Chaat - 5/5 - (Enough for 1 Sravya meal!) definitely our FAV item on the order. The crispy 'papdi' were not dense like typical papdi but were light, not oily, and really delicious. The aloo tikkis that this chaat was made on were out of the world! Melt in mouth, perfect taste.
Beet Samosas - 3/5 - (3 pieces) The shell was not made in the typical 'punjabi' samosa -and tasted more like the 'south indian' railway shell (in a good way!) but the downer was that we couldn't identify any beets in the taste nor see anything that resembled a beet root!
Masala Baked Eggplant – 3.5/5 – definitely a more ‘fusion’ item in our order. Eggplant pieces covered and baked in ‘turmeric’ bechamel sauce. Definitely unique and tasted pretty nice – the flavor profile was more French in this one.
Paratha Croissant – 2.5/5 – literally tasted like they fried a frozen Parotta! Unique idea but we didn’t dig it
Lavendar Malai – 4/5 - Rasmalai with hints of lavender, decorated with what I think was lavender buttercream – we didn’t love the buttercream but the Rasmalai was OUT of the world. Super soft and spongey as it should have been!!
Madras Avenue Mocktails – 5/5 we loved these!!! I couldn’t identify what they were totally made of but it was based on a coconut crème with spices (turmeric? Lime?) Yum!
Overall, definitely worth the price tag if you want a good experience! Note – I think reservations are required though the place wasn’t too busy on a Sunday evening

First photos shot on my new phone!! I was so excited and wanted to share the pictures and add my review! I need a post I can refer to for future orders.
Starting this with our recent rendezvous - to our favorite restaurant in Dallas - Desi District!!
Order:
Veg Manchurian Fried Rice - 5/5 Absolute favorite! Super flavorful and fairly large quantity (enough for like 3 Sravyas) We asked for "spicy" but you should definitely go with "extra spicy" if you want to feel the heat
Delhi Belly Kati Rolls - 4/5 Really do hit the spot, great for a snack – order “extra spicy” - They're served with a side salad but I would really have preferred a dipping sauce!
Tandoori Veg Momos - 3.5/5 Disclaimer, I've never had momos in the homeland but my friends who have - said that they really liked these! I'm not a huge fan of tandoori momos (and I forget that every time I order!! Hence this post) but the filling is pretty flavorful and I think I'd make it a 4/5 if I had ordered Steamed
Samosa Burger - 4.5/5 What impressed me the most with this one was the price! It was the price of maybe one samosa for even more! Cute little burger, we saved it for a tea-time snack and loved it!
Gulab Jamun Pastry - 3.5/5 - If you miss cakes from Indian bakeries - Definitely try this one out! It really reminded me of the cakes we used to get at the bakery next to my grandparents' house in our town in India (I’m personally not a pastry person )
Gulab Jamun - 2/5 Least loved item on our order - they looked so juicy and cute but they were a little hard and honestly way too sweet. I’m personally a sucker for fresh, homemade, soft inside, slight crunch inside Gulab Jamuns
Fresh Pressed Sugar Cane Juice - 3/5 a good drink, It's definitely like the first time you drink Vita Coco after coming back from India. Good, and a staple? but definitely doesn't match the Indian taste.
Nimbu Masala Soda - 4/5 Always a staple for us - It tastes great and honestly, it's like a digestive aid after eating too much!!
Overall, as you know, I love Desi District and would always recommend it to anyone visiting Dallas!! (cont. in comments)

Finallyyy got around to sharing this household staple! We eat a lot of traditional south indian meals every single day for breakfast and lunch so we always look forward to something super fun in the evenings! And what's better than some healthy (hey! it's basically just peas) chaat??
And as vegetarians, this is a great way to get in some extra servings of the lentils/beans/peas family! I've shared the Ragada recipe, along with the two chunteys that I use for this!
Let me know if you enjoy this! and keep following .of.my.eye (and keep me accountable!!) for more fun recipes!

It was raining so heavily yesterday and my mom made her corn vada to go with the evening chai! The lovely little espresso cups from totally added to the vibe! Sharing a vegan chai recipe below!
The recipe for the corn vada is in my IGTV.
It's super simple and has only FIVE ingredients: fresh corn, rice flour, chilies, salt and oil. and they come out SO good.
Recipe for Chai for 2

Please use a steel sauce pan - tea, milk, etc. shouldn't be made in nonstick or cast iron or whatever other materials.

Ingredients
1 cup water
1 cup Oat Milk
2 tsp tea powder
2 tsp sugar
1/2 inch ginger
10 mint leaves
2 pepper corns

1. Add water to a sauce pan
2. Using a mortar and pestle, grind up the spices.
3. Add spice paste to water and bring to a light boil
4. Add the tea powder (if you're new to this, definitely measure the tea powder)
5. Boil for another 3-4 minutes
6. Add in the Oat milk ( is the BEST, from Kroger is pretty good too) add a little more if it's too dark for you. But remember, oat chai tastes better slightly darker than normal tea.
7. Oat milk wont boil over like milk, so let it go for another 3-4 minutes before you turn it off.
8. Strain, add sugar as per you sweetness (I usually do tea powder to sugar) and enjoy!

Our Maharastrian neighbor invited us over for chai and snacks and fed us a whole dinner. The Khaman (popularly known as Dhokla) was definitely the highlight of the evening! It's one of my favorite snacks to begin with, but aunty had done a great job with making it super light and fluffy!
Though we have been interacting with some of our neighbors throughout this COVID mayhem, the dinners, chai meetups, etc. were almost on a total break. It was really nice to go over and have a calm, casual chat after so many days!
We chatted about Maharastrian culture, the difference in style between Mumbai and Pune, what their food staples are, how vada pav came to Mumbai, the commonalities between Maharastrian and Gujju/Telugu cultures (my favorite!) and just so much more. Food is a great way to connect and learn about culture!
My dream would be to go around my neighborhood (to begin with) and learn about different families, cultures and traditions, especially about food -- so if you're my neighbor - here's an invite to invite me for some tea :p

Tried the Thai Spaghetti from 's recipes! It was soo easy to throw together, we made it under 30 minutes. It was like a competition to get it done within 30 minutes actually 😂 Delicious noodles, some leftover poori and kurma and great views!
