Life can be challenging...

With a steady job, kids to look after (and possibly parents too), roles and responsibilities in your community, and many other stresses like relationships and seemingly endless cooking/cleaning it's hard to focus on yourself when so many others need your time and help.

However this can be very harmful to you, AND your family, in the long run. If you neglect yourself and your body, you will undoubtedly gain weight throughout adulthood (adult onset obesity), while simultaneously losing muscle mass every year (sarcopenia). These compound on each other and make you larger, but also weaker, with less range of motion, tired, and stiff, making everyday activities very difficult. This is all without mentioning your decreased confidence and self-esteem when looking in the mirror after this happens, which may drain the motivation of many individuals.

ALL IS NOT LOST, and this is not the end! I want to show you how working out at home, with an online trainer like me, can do wonders to your physical body, mental clarity, and emotional self-esteem.

This or That: Salad Dressing

When it comes to fatloss (for the most part) keeping calories as low as possible will only help your progress.

Eating salads is one of the easiest ways to keep excess calories low, maintain satiety with the fiber from veggies (if you eat the right ones and add protein), and ensuring you're getting all your micronutrients to keep all your cells functioning optimally to help fatloss.
However if you choose the wrong dressing you may still be overeating your calories for the day and fatloss will be nonexistent.

**As you can see the difference between these two salad dressings is astronomical: 2tbs of Bolthouse Farms Caesar dressing is only 45 calories, while the same 2tbs from Ken's Steakhouse Caesar is 170 calories. That's just under 4 TIMES the amount of calories in the same quantity of dressing.

If you combine this difference with the fact that many people have no idea how much dressing they're using, it's quite easy to see how fatloss my be futile if you're not careful with what, and how much you eat.

A question I hear all the time, and the answer isn’t as black and white as you’d hope, I’m sure. The answer is simply put, how bad do you want the goal you’re reaching for? Are you willing to let things completely in your control destroy the results you’re trying to achieve? Or are you wanting to reach your goal bad enough that you will not let anything in your way, even yourself?

The golden rule of fatloss or muscle building is “calories in calories out” as you’ve probably heard thousands of times. However within that saying we can break it down into smaller, more understandable terms.

Just as the 1st law of thermodynamics states that energy can not be destroyed, it is simply changed from one form to another (work, heat, matter, etc.), so the calories you consume have to change INTO something else correct?

Depending on your activity levels and the amount of calories you’re consuming, the change that occurs will be limited to a few scenarios.

1. If you are exercising regularly (either cardio or strength training) then those calories consumed as energy are thus used accordingly, they are either burned off as fuel, stored as an energy source for the future, or used as building blocks to strengthen the organism.
