According to the World Health Organization (WHO), globally, about 67% of people below the age of 50 years (which equates to 3.7 billion people) have HSV-1. This is the virus that most often causes oral herpes.
They also note that about 417 million people aged 15–49 years (11% of the population) have HSV-2, which usually causes ge***al herpes. HSV-2 is more common in females.
🟢More facts:
👉🏾Most people with the virus don’t have symptoms.
👉🏾Most people with oral herpes were infected during childhood or young adulthood from non-sexual contact with saliva
👉🏾There is currently no cure for HSV-1 or HSV-2. Once a person has it, the infection is lifelong.
👉🏾Most of the time, herpes is mild. However, it can cause serious complications in some cases.
👉🏾If an infant has exposure to herpes during delivery, they are at risk of neonatal herpes. This can cause brain damage or death.

Let's kick off with the basics - what is and why does it matter? Preeclampsia is persistent high blood pressure in pregnancy that if left untreated, can be dangerous for mom and baby. A pregnant person's body is particularly sensitive to shifts in their blood pressure. Preeclampsia can occur quite quickly, and sometimes without any symptoms, which is why going to every prenatal and postpartum appointment is so important!

April is national , and more and more women are giving birth by cesarean section, not just in the U.S. but also abroad: In some Brazilian cities, at least half of all deliveries are
C-sections. Growing popularity is often a sign of something new. But the C-section is actually one of the oldest surgeries on record. References to C-sections go back thousands of years. Early Chinese drawings depict newborns being removed from openings in their mother’s abdomens. Ancient Greeks believed the sun god Apollo ripped his son Asclepius from his dying mother’s belly.
Our cesarean scars tell stories. To all you c-section mamas out there, you are amazing and honored.

The average menstrual cycle is 24 to 38 days. The typical period lasts four to eight days.
Monthly or regular periods are a sign your cycle is normal. Your body is working to prepare for a possible pregnancy.
In addition to bleeding, 90 percent of people who menstruate say they experience various symptoms. Food cravings are one common symptom. In fact, one studyTrusted Source found that almost half of American women crave chocolate at the start of their period! 🍫
What do you crave during your period?

The hormones relaxin and progesterone relax muscles and loosen ligaments and joints, especially in the pelvic area. The extra weight and body changes in pregnancy along with these loosened joints and ligaments can cause discomfort.
It takes the ge***al organs six weeks to two months to return to their original size and function. The pregnancy hormone relaxin will remain in a new mother's body for up to five months.

"Csections often get a bad rap. As though they are the “easy way out”. Which of course is not true — especially when medically necessary and involving more risks.
💥A cesarean is major abdominal surgery that carries its own potential complications. This can include increased risk of infections, blood clots, severe pain, longer recovery period and even additional hospital visits.
And yet, moms can be made to feel like they did not actually birth their baby. Someone once said to me, “But you didn’t give birth, they took him out of you.” It stung. I felt like something was taking from me in that moment...and felt less than.
💥But birth is MORE than just how baby comes out of the body. The entire birthing experience…the before, the during and the after matters. It's a process to make the baby, and the mother.
Whether va**nal or cesarean each and every which way baby is delivered is a miracle…and is still birth”. ❤️❤️

Thank you for this wonderful information about perineal care after delivery!
.
An L&D patient’s perineum, the area between the va**na and a**s, can go through some serious trauma after pushing a baby out of their va**na. They can get tears and lacerations, stitches, hemorrhoids, swelling, and soreness. But here’s where the peri bottle and a perineal ice pack come in handy for pain relief down there!
.
🍼Peri bottle💦
It’s a sq**rt bottle that can be filled with warm water to help clean the perineal area easily. We typically use it when we get the patient up to the toilet to clean them before they get moved to postpartum. It helps a lot to use it when patients are peeing so it doesn’t burn as much.
.
❄️Perineal cold pack❄️
It’s basically an ice pack in a pad. You squeeze it to activate the cold and place it on the perineum to help with the pain and swelling.
.
Over in postpartum they have even more goodies for the perineum like Dermoplast spray to cool and numb the perineum if it’s sore and witch hazel spray/pads to help prevent infections.
.
Thank goodness for these products helping our mom’s heal after their labor and delivery!

During pregnancy, the amount of blood pumped by the heart (cardiac output) increases by 30 to 50%. As cardiac output increases, the heart rate at rest speeds up from a normal prepregnancy rate of about 70 beats per minute to 80 or 90 beats per minute. During exercise, cardiac output and heart rate increase more when a woman is pregnant than when she is not. At about 30 weeks of pregnancy, cardiac output decreases slightly. Then during labor, it increases by an additional 30%. After delivery, cardiac output decreases rapidly at first, then more slowly. It returns to the prepregnancy level about 6 weeks after delivery.

You got this! When you feel happy and calm, it allows your baby to develop in a happy, calm environment. However, emotions like stress and anxiety can increase particular hormones in your body, which can affect your baby's developing body and brain. Pregnancy can be hard but try to stay positive and surround yourself with supportive friends and family.
