PCOS is not who you are. You are not missing periods. You are not bloat. You are not insulin resistance. You are not depression. You are not infertility. You are not hair growth or weight gain. You are not anxiety. You are not fatigue. That's not who you are, but when we are consumed with pcos and our symptoms it's easy to feel like that's it. That's all that we are. But pcos is not who you are. You are light. You are goodness. You are comfort. You are softness and strength. You are stardust. You are love. Making peace with our bodies and pcos liberates us to see and be who we really are. And you are everything.
💛 PCOS Body Peace is a 6 week group to challenge the way we feel about ourselves and pcos and make peace just as we are now. Spots are extremely limited so you get the most support from me and your peers so don't wait to sign up. DM me to learn more or head to link in bio!

I love to fix. A lot of my natural tendencies and personality pushes me to fix. Fix problems, fix people, fix my body, fix relationships, fix my health, fix my finances... the list could go on. When we have pcos (or pretty much anyone living in our capitalist, ableist society) we are trained to focus on fixing. Never stop fixing. That is exhausting and most of the time not helpful. We don't need to fix the people around us, we don't need to be hyper focused on fixing our body, we can't just fix pcos. When we do that we end up hurting others and ourselves, we may experience isolation and shame and more judgment. We need to stop fixing but can shift to caring. Caring for offers connection and support. It recognizes autonomy. It gives credit to our body and to those around us. It takes so much pressure off. What is a thing you feel like you need to fix and how can you offer care instead?

My body knows life. My body has met death. My body practices grief. My body holds hope.
With having PCOS I was always told that getting pregnant would be the hardest part. I held the mantra "my body knows life" from the time of my cancer diagnosis and through out the years of infertility. As my body met death with the loss of our first babe I realized I needed that reminder more than ever. I had to reconcile that my body would know the agonizing kiss of death while still knowing life. When we lost our 2nd, our little girl, this summer I shut down. Everything was numb and dark and my mind just wanted to escape. My body helped me process and actually practice grieving. Now my body is holding hope. It might have met with death but it also knows life.
During this pregnancy and infant loss awareness day and month I want you to know that your pain and grief and hope is seen here. And I hope you know life.
💛

Wrapping up our "How do I stop hating my body?" series! Tip 3 to stop hating your body? Experience enjoyment with it! It's hard to hate a thing that gives us pleasure. One of my favorite activities to do with clients is to set out for intentional pleasure and enjoyment in your body everyday. If your response to this tip was "I don't experience pleasure in my body" that's ok. It makes total sense that after years of deprivation and restriction and fighting that you might feel like pleasure or enjoyment doesn't come easily or spontaneously. That's why I encourage people to start intentionally. Experience enjoyment and pleasure intentionally in your body each day. That might look like savoring a delicious food, laughing with a friend, going for a walk, sitting in the sun, having an or**sm, connecting with someone you love, watching something funny. Just pick one thing each day that feels good. The more we intentionally seek enjoyment in our body the more we will notice it throughout the day and the more we will stop hating and start embracing our body. How can you experience enjoyment or pleasure in your body today?

31. While there were brutally hard and dark moments this year, there was also a lot of joy, beauty, growth, success, and contentment. My mantra this past year was "my body knows life" and I think I'll keep that going with a little addition. This body knows life, and this life holds magic. Here is to another year of embracing the magic of every day life. I'm so glad you are here in this little corner of the internet, you all add to the magic.

Continuing our conversation about how to stop hating our bodies. Tip two is to start listening to it. So often when we hate our body we spend time ignoring it, suppressing it, not trusting it. Let's try to start listening more. That might mean listening to hunger, listening to cravings, listening to fatigue and resting, listening to pain, listening to our physical and emotional boundaries.

This week I'm sharing some steps for us to stop hating our bodies. My first recommendation is to simply find a way to care for it. Not fight it, care for it. It's hard to hate something we care for. When we hear or tell ourselves that we need to care for our bodies often we jump to ideas of having to eat a certain diet or create a strict work out plan. That's not what I mean. There are so many kind and gentle ways to care for our bodies. Some of my favorite ways are to put lotion on everyday, drink more water/stay hydrated, rest more, stretch, take my meds, get a massage or acupuncture, make sure I eat through out the day. There are so many options. So many ways to move from hating and fighting to caring. Comment below with how you can care for your body!

How do I stop hating my body? When we get to the point that we want something to change how do we actually make that happen? Often times we have been exposed to and learned enough that logically we are at the point of not 100% hating our body but it doesn't FEEL that way. We still have negative thoughts and emotions bombarding us. We still feel gross and let down. We still desperately want our body to change, to be in a different body. So how do you get there? How do we start making the shift from hating our body? We are going to explore my answer to this question this week.
