This Halloween, the scariest thing isn’t ghosts; it’s the reality women in business still face. Only 2.3% of all venture capital funding goes to startups founded solely by women. For Black women, that number drops below 0.5%. And the survival rates? About 20% of women-owned businesses close in the first year. For Black women, it’s closer to 50%, with only 3% surviving past five years.
These aren’t just numbers; they reflect real, systemic barriers like limited access to capital, bias, fewer resources, and the rollback of DEI support. All women in business face challenges, but Black women often face even steeper ones with less institutional backing.
Equity means acknowledging these differences and working to close the gaps, not just during Women’s History Month or Black History Month, but every day. Share this. Start the conversation. Let’s build a more inclusive future together.
